What are my chances at
Yale? Stanford? Barnard? Brown? USC? Princeton? Pomona?

as a urm you have decent chances. That 790 in spanish won't count because you are hispanic. At this point, you have to increase your sat scores a little more to have a good shot at those choices.

anyone else have an opinion? I don't know if applying to stanford is a waste of my time or if i have a chance. What other schools are good for me?

"that 790 in spanish won't count because you are hispanic" as if all hispanics know spanish grammer and sentence structure.... keep in mind only 3/4 of all american hispanics speak spanish with minimal fluency... the amount that can read and write it well is even less... a 790 BY ANY ONE, regardless of ethnicity is impressive... its not like every hispanic is scoring 5s on AP span lang or lit... although i think your sats could rise a bit

I agree with foodisgood, also, some of the colleges you're applying to might require 3 SAT II's. I'd say you have a good shot at all--I know Yale accepts a lot of URM's,

ok FFF first of all if you dont score a five on the ap spanish lang you cant call urself hispanic and second the spanish lit exam has nothing to do with speaking spanish its all poetry and literature analysis...
of course a 790 counts but its not as prestigious and it shows lazyness by the student...it is obvious that he can speak spanish if he is hispanic and got a 5 on the ap...so its true it shows he can read and write but a high score on another sat would be more impressive

strongly consider pomona and the UCs, which need minorities. the ivies don't.

Pimp, that is the most inaccurate thing I've ever heard. "If you don't get a five on AP Spanish Lit, you're not hispanic!" Pure bs. A girl at my school is half mexican, she can't write or even speak Spanish, but guess what? She's still an URM and will reap all its benefits. So yes, a 790 in Spanish definitely does count and does not look lazy if he has other SAT II's to go with it, which I'm assuming he will. What FindFish said is entirely true.

ok spookyalien u might want to go get some reading glasses, maybe then you wont quote something that i never wrote...
i said that if you cant get a 5 in the spanish LANGUAGE exam you are not really hispanic...i didnt say anything about being considered a URM or reaping benefits...of course she is going to reap the benefits...but lets say she gets a 5 in ap spanish language and you do too...which five will look more impressive to college reps?
all i said was that a good score on another exam instead of the sat 2 spanish is much more impressive coming from a person who claims to be hispanic than a 790 in spanish...its a good score but if you are hispanic you are better off taking another subject...you will look dedicated instead of lazy...
