i just applied early action at NEU and i really want to get into the honors program. i also need quite a bit of financial aid so any thoughts about my chances for either would be fantastic.
SATs: 1400 (770 CR, 630 M, 680 W)
SAT IIs: US 620 Lit 700
APs: US 5, English Lang 5, Euro 4 (taking english lit & us government this year)
GPA: 3.8 unweighted (this may go up to a 3.9 after this marking period), 4.0 weighted
many extracurriculars, leadership positions (EIC of the newspaper which is important because i'm applying as a journalism/communications major), some volunteer work
rank: 22/677 (top 3% or so)
what do you think? thanks :]

slurringspeech,
Your 770 CR should help and your AP scores should also help. Why is there such a small difference between your unweighted and weighted GPA? Does your school weight the AP classes? Are those the only weighted courses you took?
What area of the country are you from?
NEU is a hard one to second guess as far as merit/need based aid and honors program. It seems to depend a bit on geography and major.
Of course, decent SATs like yours and being in the top 5% of your graduating class help quite a bit.

well, my unweighted gpa right now is a 93.025. i expect it to go up to a 95. weighted is a 97 (this may go up to a 98). my school weighs honors courses at 1.05, aps at 1.1 and accelerate math at 1.08. i've taken plenty of weighted courses but according to my transcript draft, my uw/w gpas are as mentioned.
i'm from long island, new york.
it looks like i have a decent shot because the cutoff seems to be 3.8 gpa and 1360 SAT.

You should have a decent shot. The fact that you are from LI probably doesn't help as much as if you were from the West or midWest.
I understand the weighting now..interesting. My kids HS gives a 4.0 for an A and a 5.0 for an A in a weighted class.

Northeastern will recalculate your GPA anyway. When I spoke to an admissions officer there this summer he said they add .5 to honors classes and 1 to AP's (not sure what they do with IB's). But I don't remember the details: Is that quarterly? Each semester? Per year? Do they only consider academic classes?

Does anyone know?
