Chances for Hunter College/CUNYs?

Hi, I'm a first-time poster here and thought I should get some advice from you guys. I'm really, really, extremely interested in going to Hunter College for their media studies program. The thing is, I don't know if I'm going to be able to get in.

I'm a minority, Hispanic to be specific.
My GPA is a 2.8, probably 2.9 by next semester.
My SAT score is a 1620 - CR 610, M 370, W 640. My math score is killing me and that's part of the reason I'm so unsure about my chances (retook the SAT this October and didn't do any better)
I'm on the yearbook/newspaper staff, have several accumulated community hours, and can write a pretty good essay considering that's my strong point (which definitely isn't math).

Should I apply to Hunter or any of the other CUNYs or would I have a better chance transferring from a community college in 2 years? Should I work really hard on improving my math score and take the SAT again in December and barely send it in before the deadline?

I'm also open to any suggestions of other schools in NYC!! Hunter is my first choice, but I do like Pace, NYU, etc. yet am aware of how competitive they are.

Thank you so much in advance. It would truly mean a lot.

Im a minority too, Hispanic to be specific, my GPA is a 3.7 M600 CR500 W480
I got into Hunter. In my opinion, work on that math score because they do not look at writing too much.

Pace isn’t competitive. They practically have open admissions lol

Hunter is a reach as of right now because of your GPA more than your SAT. If you are OOS, it will be a high reach for you to get in.
