-founded my own organization called HOPE which sends supplies such as clothing, toiletries, bedding, etc. to Latin American countries. We began with an orphanage in Haiti and branched out to Costa Rica this year. It all began after the 2010 earthquake there. Have done many events at school and at the summer camp where I work as a counselor/administrative assistant. We've also started clubs in elite private schools across the country (which send students to Harvard/ivies every year, so they'll be familiar with that). We started working with Feed My Starving Children, a famous organization which is now helping us get our supplies to Latin America. We are meeting with the president of it soon!

Nice SAT scores and courses. Your community service is unprecedented. I think that might be your ticket to Princeton. However, Yale and Harvard expect unnaturally high SAT scores- north of 2350.

thank you!!! but i read an interview with the head of Harvard’s admissions and he said that SAT scores are less important than APs, SAT IIs, and GPA (in that order). And they’re only one part of the application. So is that a major fault? Or could I make up for it with a 34 ACT?

I think you have a really great shot. That would be more so with Princeton and Yale simply because Harvard’s acceptance rate is 6%, but you still have a shot at Harvard in my opinion. Colleges admit students who will add something unique to the university and who they believe can best improve society through that college’s education. You have definitely already proven your commitment to helping others! Also, I could be wrong, but I believe the word hook applies more toward an activity or achievement that makes you stand out, not your personal background. In that case, I would definitely use art and/or community service as your hook. Your family situation can still help your chances though, so I would obviously include it in your application. For example, say that you base one of your essays on your community service projects. You could emphasize that your lack of a father, having a mother with MS, and dealing with financial difficulty growing up drove you to improve others’ lives. Just a suggestion! Best regards, I’m praying for you!

OMG thank you so much!!! That really helped!! I think I’m going to use a lot of imagery in my essay along with what you suggested (i was thinking about doing something like that, strangely enough :P) and explain my motives for doing HOPE and art and etc. thank you again! so apprciative :)
