flattered no, really, axfr, you shouldn't put romania in the same category with Korea&China(&don't forget India!)... it's true that many romanians apply, but not so many. For example, i don't know any other princeton EDer sighs with relief :)

Also, i know that not many french ppl apply, and that's because the french school system is great! (in fact, i want to go to ENSup if i don't get in anywhere in the states - and even if i do, i will surely take a year to study abroad: France or England:))

i know this may seem a stereotypical generalization, but I really think that romanians are among the brightest and most hard-working people in Europe.
I mean all you guys have got perfect SAT's and speak 5 languages. Perhaps ROmania joining the EU in 2007 will give "old Europe" the boost it's been waiting for...

I would not hurry to generalizations that fast. I am a Romanian, as Pavalon is and I would agree that there are some bright people in Romania, as there are everywhere. Poverty is a great stimulent for achieving (in a perverse way) so this should provide an explanation for our hard work. But, anyway, the average Romanian is rather lazy and... average. And I am afraid Old Europe already got a taste of Romania - just look at the illegal migrants. My country tends to be perceived only through two extremes - either as a training camp for overachievers or as an exporter of beggars, prostitutes and illegal workers. Actually both things are true to a certain extent, but the big picture is different.

it's not that it's stereotypical, but it's pretty much wrong... or rather an idealization.

Sure, it'd be great if every romanian applicant would be like bogdan, but they're not. He's as amazing to me as he is to you:). And i'm afraid that our entering the EU will only benefit your economy:D (as a new market)... many ppl here have very old and conservative views, and that in the bad meaning... unfortunately... i love my country, but this is the truth! :/

the fact is i refrain from making such generalizations, they easily slip out of control and i say things which might not be correct...

anyway, the fact that you're the only frenchman on cc is another good sign 4u ;) prolonged wink

yea the rags-to-riches stories that are emphasized here tend to emphasize either sports or rapping. doesnt exactly encourage working hard in school.

have all of u applied ED or EA?
ive applied regular...didn't have time to take all the SAT's...so I have to wait another 4 months for my answer:(I'm gona think of it every day lol

yeah this place is driving me nuts. I think I said that about 15 times on CC and I still come back for more lol. CC is what I call a humbling experience lol
stanford wannabe applying to Harvard EA? did I miss something?

haha yea i know, the application to harvard EA was motivated by a higher EARLY admit rate at harvard, the fact i live in NJ, and to some extent, my parents.

but stanford is your first choice?
where else are you applying to?
One thing I haven't understood, despite going through hundreds of threads, is whether int'l have better or less good chances than domestics.
The intl applicant pool is probably stronger than the domestic, because of all the people with perfect SAT's. But I'd say 75% of those people are either from China or from Korea India or Romania.
I'm from france and I have yet to see a single french applicant on CC. I've checked the ivy's records and they somehow manage to get a more or less equal number of freshmen from each country. Does that mean I stand a better chance?

Howdy people. question: how many croatian people at mit? better yet how many people with as low sat scores? my chances are goin down the drain. :(
