Want to major in International Relations and/or Economics.

I also like the following schools:
University of Virginia
William and Mary
Columbia University
New York University
UCLA

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm pretty much on my own with this whole college process since I am first in my family to attend college, so please forgive my ignorance.

Alhtough I don't know how the whole IB process works, my GPA was about the same as yours, my SATs were a little higher, you had much more community sevice and ECs than me. I don't see you having a problem getting in (minority should help as well) and Georgetown is EXCELLENT about offering aid, I wouldn't be suprised if they gave you a full ride. Just out of curiosity what school at Georgetown did you apply to? I 'm into the college...

Well, it's almost a little creepy how exact our stats are, my rank/gpa/sat scores/APs/family income are all very close to yours, and as far as my IBs go, I'm in French HL, Biology HL, Literature HL, History HL, Art HL, and Math SL, (diploma candidate as well) and I've been on varsity tennis 4 years...but...I was deferred when I applied Early Action...
I'd say you have a shot, but it isn't really working out for me as I had hoped.
My best advice to you is to get involved in ECs that show your interest in international relations/economics more than just Model UN. See if you can find any internships/volunteer work at embassies or intl. law firms or something like that to show dedication and interest.
If you want advice on schools w/ good IR, you should also look into Tufts U, Johns Hopkins, and George Washington.
Good luck!

i agree with voguepanda about getting involved in IR-related ec's, but the combination of full IB with a great gpa, commendable sat scores, varsity sport, first generation, and minority status is fearsome. i'd be really, really surprised if you didn't make it. if you are going for the SFS then study really hard and get good sat ii scores in history, language, lit, or whatever can highlight your skills in... er... international relating.

good luccccccck!

and voguepanda... i was so rooting for you.

niceguy2011- I definitely will retake the SAT and I still have to take the subject tests. I will apply next year and Georgetown is my first choice because of the strength of their International Relations program.

Voguepanda- You are insane! You took 5 HLs. haha, I can barely handle 4. As for my ECs, I am also on the Debate Team, we do pretty well locally but Model UN takes up a lot of my time (maybe too much) and that prevents me from participating in any other IR related activities. I am surprised you were deferred and I really wish you the best.

aot2007:Thank you. I plan on taking the French, Spanish, and US History SAT in June.

Oh. I visited George Mason University today and took the campus tour. I was really impressed by the overall atmosphere and their Honors program which basically gives you a full ride. If I don't get into Georgetown, then George Mason is definitely a possibility. I plan on visiting Georgetown within the next few months.

btw, if anyone is interested in rendering their analysis of Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for death" PM me. (joking) Oh how I despise poetry... back to work...
