Dont do it... save yourself the trouble.

You have to apply to be in the IB program? My school needs to adopt that policy. Too many overachievers think they're smart because they're in IB with failiing averages.

alot of peopole hate IB but alot of people love it too. so that part's your own choice.
as for admission to IB. it differs from school to school. some school have serious programs with strict application deadline and notification dates (and low acceptance rate to go along with all that) while others done even care if you are there for the entrance exam or not.

I applied to 2 IB schools in gr.10, one had a 2 page applicaton, requested all transcript, an essay, a mandatory interview and an exam. the other one was just a "write down your name" application, optional exam (which I didn't bother go to) and optional visit (which I also didnt bother go to)

I got in both and obviously attended the first one.

Lol I didn't even know one had to apply for Ib, at My school the only requisite is an average above 85 hahah. But still, alot of people drop out of diploma. Personally I love the program ( although I hate TOK, what a waste of time..could have taken computer science in that block). I love that tthe classes ( at least at mys chool) are incredibly small, for example there are only 6 students in Math Hl. Good luck, hoe you get in.

I love ToK (comp sci's not offered at my school anyways) the writting is actually kind of fun and when you have a good teacher , the classes can be too.

i hate IB bec it pulled my GPA down from 100% ish to 80 ish. gar.

really ? I have no idea why but this year I'm actually doing better than my sophmore year. I guess I'm more motivated and I actually pay attention in class.

IB's not that hard. I had a 3.3 as a soph, then got a 3.8 as a junior (with IB). Though my school doesn't require you to apply to be in IB, which would be nice... there are so many idiots here that think they're smart because they can pull off a B by cheating.

I love IB... TOK, more personal classes (i.e by IB2 you know everybody!), getting the best teachers in the school, and especially the awesome people I get to hang out with all day! I've made so many cool friends in IB... what can I say? I know that at my school at least, the people who are the most involved (ie. IB, band, clubs, sports, etc.) are quite often the nicest. The fact that we get to go through it all together just makes us that much closer.

Anyways - I had to apply to get into IB at my school. There are 2000 people in the school (in grades 10-12) with maybe 350 in some type of IB class. As for the diploma program, I know my year has ~45 diploma candidates out of 650 students in our grade. Also, about 9 of those 45 (myself included) are taking a bilingual diploma - with Math and History in French.

One thing about IB at my school is that A LOT of people drop out. That means that by grade 12, the people in your classes want to be there, which is well... awesome!

IB is a real GPA killer unless the school weights it. I personally think it is much more rigorous than AP as a whole (all those IAs, G4 projects, TOK..hell). But still, it's worth it.

Will I get in or not?

Considering none of us know the rigor of your school's IB program, we can not assess your chances.

I would do the IB if i were you. In my school that's all there is but for all the bad press its a great program. OK, so TOK may be useless but beyond that its very doable. It's been really rewarding for me and many of the people in my year. (btw I go to one of the very first schools to become an IB school and its a pretty rigorous program.) (international school of geneva)

my school had applications, interview, teacher recs, entrance exam, and all the other college-like criteria to be admitted to IB...so i applied and got in...BUT i so regret it, our school doesn't weight and we now get lower GPAs than regular program kids. I should've gone to the AP school instead.

...if only i could go back 2 yrs..

We can't tell you your chances for the IB program, there is no set criteria for being in the program. Some schools have requirements, others do not. You would have to ask someone who knows your specific school.

Unless you just really did bad on the test or you are a really really hard worker I think you might struggle. The FCAT reading is pretty elementary and a lot of IB is doing work under timed situations where reading comprehension is VERY important. Though, I must admit FCAT is probably the biggest joke of a test ever.
