Class rank?

I'd say that you have slim chances at UNC, even instate (barring something amazing), with a 1520 out of 2400, are you retaking?

Last year my sister (in-state, legacy) was waitlisted, later denied.

She had a 4.15 gpa, 1390 SAT (31 ACT). She had 5's on AP Calculus and Biology.

Unfortunately, you have a number of things working against you. As you know your SATs are on the low side; for many UNC applicants 1400-1500 is their score for the two old sections alone. I notice that you didn't break them out, what were the individual scores?

Your APs aren't going to help you either; AP Environmental Science isn't one of the APs that most schools highly regard (nor is Human geography) and your other AP scores aren't exactly stellar.

I am trying to look for other things to offset the low scores like most rigorous curriculum and I don't see that either; maybe I am wrong here but it doesn't look that way on fast glance.

Like others have said before me I think that UNC should also be categorized as a reach. Without seeing the SAT breakout it's very hard to comment on other schools on your list, but I certainly would also add the "reach" notation to Wake Forest and maybe even Elon. In the case of Elon, their star is rising and the number and quality of applications has been going up for the last three to four years which has significantly raised the bar for admission there.

Honestly, I would save the application fee (and the effort to complete the application) to Duke unless there are extraordinary circumstances and seeing that you are not a URM I'm not sure what else they might be.

I would save the time you were going to spend on a Duke application and really work on your essays and personal statements and make sure that those doing your recs are not just going to spew pabulum but can give in depth strong recs on your behalf for any school that you apply to.

I'm sorry because I really wish that I could be more positive but I think your list needs a bit more work and refining.

Maybe your best route to Chapel Hill would be to go to one of the other UNC schools for two years, work hard and do real well and try to transfer to UNC. Your SAT scores won't matter in that case.

Good luck.

UNC is a reach, but Wake...IF you have a decent class rank (top 10%-15% of your class or better), you'd have a decent chance of getting into, because it's SAT optional.

If you want an outside chance of getting into UNC, Duke, and maybe Elon, the single biggest thing you could do right now is retake your SATs, and really study for them, especially if you think 1520 out of 2400 isn't the best you can do.

That's just what Wake is after, another applicant, applying because of the no SAT requirement, that they can decline to drive down their acceptance % and push up their school ranking....

Oh right. Don't apply to wake forest then, not because you won't get in, because you'll be a tool. :-p

yes im retaking the sat in october.
