Grades have been consistent..All A's and a B+ in one of my classes each year. Meaning it's risen every year weighted as I take more AP classes.

Definetely know I will have taken 8 AP classes when I graduate (English Lang, English Lit, Spanish Lit, Calculus BC, World, US History, Statistics, Environmental Science)

Debating whether I want to do AP Psych or Accounting. I think I want to do to accounting to show UVA that I want to major in business and I'm serious about it. Or should I take AP psychology for the sake of taking another AP to make it seem I have a harder course load?

You're probably in. At my school (in Fauquier County), you'd be in with those stats. I'd say you've got at least a 75% chance, but it's likely higher.

UVa has quotas for schools-under the cuff, naturally-so your admission may rest on which school you are applying to. I'd say you have a fair shot. UVa, in my opinon, is more concerned with you on a face value level meaning that your cumulative GPA, and SATs are your application

I agree. Retaking your SATs could potentially give you a huge boost, although your score right now is likely more than sufficient. If UVA's your top choice, you could probably seal the deal by applying ED.

In my county the GPA is weighted like this:

Regular Classes:

A (94-100)=4.0

B+ (90-93)=3.5

B (84-89)=3.0 and so force decreasing by 0.5 each time.

AP class:

A (94-100)=4.5

B+ (90-93)=4.0

B (84-89)=3.5

and so forth. It isn't ridiculous like other places where an "A" weighted is a 5.0 or something.

Oh and I don't think I'll apply ED because I know I'll just get deferred so I might as well explore my options. I heard that people that get deferred to the RD pool will have a harder time getting in? I'm thinking of NYU also. My friend made it in with a 1340 and 3.8 GPA Weighted. Not top 10% of class. It was the arts and science school in NYU. SO maybe I can go there then transfer to Stern by studying hard? So many questions..

Because nobody I know of with the SATin my range made ED in my school except this one girl with a 1330. However, she was a legacy.

My school is extremely competitve, to be in the top 1% , you need a 4.06 GPA W. That's sick. Plus the people with those stats are mostly asian too and 3 I know really want to go to UVA (SAT scores in the 2200's). I can't compete with that :-(

Look, daddyflow, your chances are pretty solid for RD and are even better for ED. At my school, 9 people got into UVA. Their SAT scores were 1550, 1470, 1440, 1360, 1310, 1290, 1250, 1250, 1210 and 1170 (yea, I have a good memory.) In fact, every person in the top 30 students with 1250+ was accepted. UVA is not amazingly difficult to get into instate; the avg. instate SAT is around 1280 and the instate acceptance rate is around 50%. For NOVA people, the avg. SAT is only slightly higher and the acceptance rate is only slightly lower.

9 people made it? How many total students are in your class?

Anyway, I feel much better. Grew up with the crazy asian parents who told me I need at least 1400.

Thanks for the info. I'll figure out more questions later :-)

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to start dreaming, still got one day of school (Yeh I'm one of those nerds who go on to the last day of school just to find out grades for sure).

Just to make you feel better. 8 people from my HS got in. We're from SWVA. I was 5th in my class and had an 1170! I took it like 3 times! Everyone below me had a higher SAT score but lower GPA.

How many people got accepted to UVA from Lake Braddock this year?

If you are in the top 3 percent of your class, you will probably get into UVA. I don't think UVA really cares about SAT because I know a number of people that got rejected who had a score between 1400-1450, but others with higher GPAs and Lower sats that got in.

jps is right. As a state school, UVA cares more about the grades and class ranks of its applicants, especially those from public schools. The SAT is important, as long as it is within a certain range.

Cavalier302, you're basically my hero because you are so reassuring. You made me feel a lot better about life by saying you think I have a decent shot because, like the majority of this board I'm sure, UVa is the only VA school I like. Are you headed to UVa next year?

Flip360, I'm from SWVA too. What HS did you go to?

and daddyflow, you probably have a better shot than I do. You seem pretty well-rounded and that will hopefully help you out.

Yeh, about 25-30 made UVA from my school this year I believe. That's because there's about 640 students in the class of 2005 (it's a huge school). My class (2006) has even more students (680) making my class the most competitve, since no other class has more students.

And yes, I know for sure that UVA cares way more about GPA than SAT (in state anyway. Out of state is a different story).

does your school keep a record of acceptances? My school keeps records of every application and the result, and publishes them (w/o names) in a binder in the career center so you can see the stats and results of people in past years.

At my school last year ('04) they accepted everyone (as long as you had a couple IBs) down to a certain GPA. If you know what that GPA cut off is at your school, you should be able to give yourself a really good idea.

My class probably had ~375, with ~20 (slightly under?) acceptances and like 13 attending. This years class ('05) is sending like 17 (probably everyone who got in, maybe a couple exceptions).

Yeh, my school does keep a record. There's a copy outside each counselors office. I didn't check this year, but I checked the one back in 2003 and about 25 people made it. There really isn't a cutoff, kinda varied, but all people with a 4.0 made it. Except this one person who got an 1130 or something.
