Chances for Indiana University- Bloomington?

Heh, I feel kinda bad making this thread since everyone is asking for chances for ivy league or really good schools. But yeah I have 2 questions: is Indiana University Bloomington a good school in general/business? and also what are my chances of getting in. Btw, I'm currently going into my senior year of hs.

Stats:
Gpa: 3.2 uw
Took mostly honors courses throughout my 3 years in hs + ap chem last year. Taking AP Stats and AP Physics B senior year and rest honors.

SAT:
CR- 530, Math- 680, Writing- 600 (1800...I'm studying really hard now hoping to get a 2000+ in Oct.)

EC:
- Joined a few clubs here and there
- JV tennis junior year (thinking of continuing next year)
- Volunteer at nursing home (3 years)
- Internship at a hospital
- Worked at my friend's uncle's mini convenient store (cash register)
- Took a few courses at a local community college + got A/A-/A-

As you can see, none of my stats are really much, but I'm willing to work my butt off senior year to get good grades (not that it'll affect my gpa). I feel like i really screwed up in high school and I REALLY want to go to a decent college.

**If you guys could it'd be great if you guys could chance me at the other schools I want to go to:
- University of Rochester
- UConn
- NYU
- Boston University
- University of Michigan
- Penn State

I know some of these will be a killer for me, but I'm going that I got at least a fighting chance. And feel free to ask me about other stuff.

Do you know your rank?

I don't know if IU is a good school, but from looking at its averages and whatnot, it looks like you stand a good shot at getting in. It certainly doesn't look bad.

As for the others. Your GPA really hurts you at a lot of these schools, unfortunately.

Rochester - reach...your GPA and CR are too low. Get your CR into the 600s, and you'll stand a better shot.
UConn - low reach
NYU - high reach (it is for me, too :-( )
Boston U - reach
UMich - reach
Penn State - lower reach

If you get your critical reading up to a 600, I'd say you'd have a lot better chance at Penn State and UConn.

Good luck! I'm glad you're giving it a fighting chance, and sorry if I sound harsh here. It's all just based on stats, but anything can happen with a good essay. Plus you've got a heavy courseload, which'll look good.

I hope you get into at least one of these.

^ Thanks for commenting. No, you weren't too harsh lol I know my gpa is really low for most of these colleges and yeah I'm gonna trying to get my CR to at least 630~. I hope you get into nyu as well ^^

ikat- Indiana U is a better school than penn state, BU, uconn, and rochester

jckund - I wasn't saying that it's not a good school. I was saying that I didn't know if it was, but it looked like he/she had an allright chance there.

So then the OP's got the answer from you.

jckund: does that mean I have a worse chance than getting into IU than Penn State, BU, UConn, and Rochcester? It also seems on collegeboard that it shouldn't be TOO hard to get into; the sat requirement isn't as high (CR- 510-620, Math- 520-640, Writing- N/A). And its also got a 70% acceptance rate...I'm kinda not really trusting those statistics though :/ seems too good to be true lol.

Also to add, I've taken the Math2c sat and got a 780 (if that helps a bit). and i also plan to take a language one in nov. (chinese or korean) and hoping to get in the high 700s as well.

It only has an average SAT/ACT of a 1253/28, which is surprising for how good of a school that IU is (or at least the business). I'm actually surprised that those numbers are so low, and I'm referring to businessweek for the averages. I can't explain it, so maybe someone else can.

What I think it might be (I've got nothing else to do tonight)...IU might be easier to get into because it's less popular maybe? Plus, if you look at the number of students, you'll see that there are a lot more students at IU than some of the other schools (maybe not Penn State, but I think you've got an okay shot there too). Still, doesn't mean it can't be a good school.

Go for it and see what happens.

Indiana is a fantastic school for business, ranking in the top 10 in the country in numerous departments. It is a very well respected overall, ranking in the top 40 colleges overall in the country. You will get accepted there.

You won't get into Michigan with that GPA. Rochester isn't happening either. Neither is NYU.

Boston U is a slight reach, you have a chance of getting in there. You'll get into Penn State, as well as UConn.

T.T kinda upsetting about NYU, Rochester, and Michigan lol but damn Indiana really is that good? Man that's awesome lol it has such low requirements!! Really hope I can get into at least ONE of those colleges. Thx guys if you guys want to recommend me for any other colleges with good business program feel free to!

Well to be dead honest, IU is the best business school that you have a shot at with your GPA/SAT. I hate to be harsh, but that 3.2 is gonna hurt if you are looking to get into a top business school. At least you can retake the SATs.

^ yeah I'm retaking the SATs (probably going to get around a 2000 if I learn to manage my CR maybe even a high 2000)

Good luck on the SATs. I'm aiming for high 2000s next time I take em too. The language SAT II's are VERY hard (take it from me) unless you're pretty well fluent in the language. Good luck.

ACTs are always an alternative... i found them easier, but time management is key.

^ I've been doing too much intensive SAT studying to quit on that lol I think it's a bit too late for ACT also ACTs have science (which I'm also bad at lol)...:/ don't frighten me ikatfabric lol how hard are they and which one/s have you taken? I mean I'm half korean/chinese and I'm all right with Chinese but I'm illiterate and can't write in Chinese (but I've been taking chinese classes at my school taking Chinese 4 next year think that'll be enough?)

Lol sorrry!! I'm not trying to frighten you. I took the German one after four years of straight A's in German and scoring well on National German Exams, blah blah...so I thought I'd do well. Nope, 570. Ughhh.

They're usually curved, but with language ones, the curves are often messed up. Try looking for practice on the Chinese ones. I forget which it is, but I think either Chinese or Korean you can score a perfect on and only be in like the 55th percentile. It's ridiculous.

The other subject tests aren't as bad, usually.

^ I don't think I have time to study for the other subject tests, just thought that for Chinese/Korean I wouldn't have to do THAT much studying. And I only have 1 sat2 and most colleges require 2 I think so :/ I think I'm kinda screwed!!!! Last and only option imo is chinese or korean :/ unless math1c and math2c counts as 2 subject tests cuz then ill take 1 xD (but i doubt it)

Haha, nope, they don't. There's nothing else you can take? I really wouldn't expect anything too special from the language ones unless you're über-fluent.

^ :/ man i REALLY dunno what to take then cuz im kinda busy now to study for another subject test and im also not one of those people who could study for a week and get a good score. I mean do the colleges that I've listed require 2 sat IIs? i know nyu does dunno about the others.
