I’m a black-latina, born and raised in Brazil, South America. I was raised bilingually (English-Portuguese), and at the age of 9 I started learning Spanish and French - and later on, German, català and Italian. I’m fluent in 4 languages out of 7, and intermediate level on the 3 other ones. I’m applying for freshman year. This is my academic curriculum now:
- Volunteering: nursing homes, hospitals, English classes to low-income kids and Portuguese classes to refugees.
- My grades are always equal to or above B, but usually, it’s an A. We don’t calculate GPA in Brazil.
- Extracurricular activities:
- Creative Writing
I write since 2012, this year I’ll be publishing 2 stories in Wattpad - I’ve won 2 writing competitions too, but I’m not sure if it counts. - Drama
Since 2014. I wrote 2 plays, but mostly I acted on them. - Languages learning
Well, I already speak 7 languages and I plan to learn at least 1 more this year (I have a lot of free time.) - Draw
Since 2017. Not great at it, but I’m putting a lot of effort and I actually enjoy it. - Acoustic guitar
Since 2015. A true passion. - Volleyball
Since this year. Ain’t the best of my team yet, but I’m also putting a lot of effort into it and it’s quite enjoyable. At the time of applications, I’ll probably have a game competition to mention. - Swimming
Since 2015, but I’ll only enter a competition this year (I got a full scholarship in a better swimming school so yeah) - Dance
Since 2012. Currently starting contemporary dance and ballet. - Coding
Since 2016. By the times of applications, I’ll try to do something more relevant (such as a website/GitHub) - Video editing
Since this year really. I’m trying to get into “professional” video editing.
I honestly accept recommendations for anything that I should do to improve. I know that they aren’t super competitive - except for Interlochen really - as Andover (which, by the way, I could never get in bc I don’t have money to pay for SSAT.) There are many activities that I couldn’t improve or take dual financial constraints, so…
My artistic resume for Interlochen is pretty poor, but again, dual my circumstances, is it really that bad? Tips for improvement? I want Comparative Arts major and I’d really like to get in there.
Thanks in advance.
