Chances for IR major

Hey guys, I want to major in international relations and ultimately work in government (ie. CIA analysis, State Department). My problem is that I do not have the 4.0 or 2400 SAT. Here are my stats:
- White male from southeastern PA, outside Philly
- Attend a competitive jesuit prep school in philly
- 3.64 GPA UW ( school does not weight GPA or rank)
- Not a good test taker: I got killed on the SATs so I took the ACT and ended up w/ a 26 after 3 times
- ECs: Pres of Model UN and member (4 yrs), History Club (2 yrs), Drama staff (3 yrs), Community Service (80 hrs), Volunteer on congressional campaign this summer and fall
-Awards: NHS, AP Scholar
- Course Load: 4 yrs eng, 3 yrs science, 5 yrs history, 4 yrs religion, 4 yrs math, 4 yrs german; AP US (5), AP Eng lang (4), AP US Govt (4), AP Euro
( these are the only aps i will take, AP Euro senior yr)
- Studied in Germany for 3 wks this summer + homestay
- I have an extreme interest in international relations, particularly US foreign policy and national security
-Essays will be good and recs. great

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Your AP scores are certainly impressive, no doubt about that. Do you have any idea where you rank, even a guess? I think that given the GPA and the ACT Notre Dame is a pretty big reach sorry to say. The AP scores will help because that is going to show that you know your stuff but it is definitely going to be an uphill battle. I would try really focusing like crazy on grades your senior year and also possibly try an SAT class and then retake the SAT. Sorry, I wish the news was better, but I just think that ND is a really big reach at this point! Good luck!

You do have a chance of getting in; however, I think that what would really help would be working hard to improve your standardized test scores. My best piece of advice would be to look at a couple of possible colleges, try not to get set on just one. Admissions are highly competetive and sometimes no matter how much you do the decision is still subjective. Good-luck!!

Yeah, you might want to make some trips to ND and become very friendly with the admissions department if you hope to study at ND. Sorry.

You can always transfer in!!

Spoken like a true transfer NDfreak, lol. Just be careful how you say it, it can sound nasty if people don't know the background of you or I.

Notre Dame doesn't have an IR major... you can still go and major in poli sci or something
