Chances for IU-B

I am currently a Junior in high school and IU-B is where I want to go

GPA - 3.15
ACT- 28(Projected)
SAT - 1160/1600

I have a few but solid extra curriculars( P2P - Student Ambassador, Ran a Sports Equiptment Drive, Special Olympics Vol., Big Brother Coach to for Little League Baseball )

I think my recs and personal statement will be very good

HUGE and I mean DRASTIC upward trend w/ GPA ( freshman year- 2.2 sophmore year 3.0 and junior year (As of Now) 3.85)

I also go to a SUPER Competitive high school, One of the top public schools in the state

I am also Hispanic and Live in NJ

What else can I do to get into Indiana?? Any advice??

Thanks!!!

In my opinion, your chances could go both ways from what you've mentioned.
Your test scores and your competitive high school should help you.

Now, your grade trends, while you are trending upward nicely, what type of classes were you taking in fresh/soph year that caused the low(er) gpa?

If you continue to do well academically, take higher level classes (honors/ap) in subject areas that offer it, do well, and CONTINUE to take honors and advanced classes your senior year, and with a good counselor recommendation, I think you'll have a good chance.

Is that 3.15 Unweighted or weighted, and its out of 4.0?

3.15 U/W out of 4

The only reason the GPA is kinda low is because I really messed up my freshman year I failed a world language class ( Latin ) and I was doing really good last year untill baseball season came around and I just tanked, which isnt good. But this year I have a 99% in my world language and I am not playing baseball, Im just focusing on getting the grades up as high as possible. I really want to go here,I think my rec letter will be really good because my counselor knows how much I am working just to go here.

oh and I take 2 honors and 1 AP

Bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say you have a good shot. It's not 100%, but if I were to place a wager, I'd bet on you getting in.

Thanks, that good to hear! Is there anything else I can do to make raise my chances?

NK: a local student with very similar stats to yours was deferred this past month; he called the admin office and was told that 1200 SAT is a goal he should try to achieve before a final decision would be made.....you may want to try the SAT again or possibly take a shot at the ACT.....

^^^Rodney with wise words once again. Definitely try to get your SAT up, and take a stab at the ACT too.

Like before,

Continue the upward trend, and take honors and AP your senior year, and if you do get a 28 or higher on the ACT that will really help. You might find the ACT more straightforward and less stressful for you.

And this year IU doesn't have a required essay/personal statement, but you could always send one.

when did you apply?
