Junior Year: Student Research Intern in Radiology at #1 Hospital In the US, published a research abstract in Canada

Around 300/350 Volunteer Hours

Also, I am getting an additional rec from a top radiologist at this prestigious hospital, and my dad did his residency at Yale’s med school.

I’m probably not going to apply to all of these schools; I just haven’t solidified the list yet. LOL Yale is truly my first choice. I know that Ivy leagues are all reach schools for any and most applicants. Not doing Wharton because I’m a pre-med major. Any advice for going into the essays and applications?

Unfortunately, I’m not a URM, I only have small if any legacy through my dad at Yale, and i’m not a first generation college student nor am I underpriveleged :(

Low reach to reach for these schools. Your SAT is at 1480/2280 which is around the average for these schools. 1480 in CR+M is not very impressive for Ivies and Stanford particularly with superscoring. You should have taken your SAT2 earlier. Aim for at least 750+ for 2 or more subjects.

yeah I know I should have taken them earlier :frowning: I got caught up with school work. I might retake the SAT in November which is the deadline for early application. I’ll make sure to get that 750+ in those SAT IIs and also see if I can get a 35 or 36 on the ACT.

I would say HYPSC are all reaches although you are a decent competitor for those schools. Brown, UChic, Cornell, Penn, Duke, and Dartmouth are all reaches but not as much as HYPSC. I can see you getting accepted to a few of those 6 schools
and possibly one or two of HYPSC! Good luck!

Chance back?

thanks! I’m hoping for the best and still working on my resume to include all the things I started while having those leadership positions in those clubs!

If you’re doing pre-med, you still need to major in something, which could have been in the Wharton school of Business, but jsyk, you don’t MAJOR in pre-med.

I know you don’t MAJOR in pre-med…but it will be in of the sciences or a combination. Therefore, I know Wharton has some good programs that combine management with life sciences , but I would rather look at College of Arts and Sciences. However, thanks for the reminder about Penn’s Wharton School as I would still like to keep that option open :)

I’m in agreement with everyone else. Your stats are fine at this point, it’s just about standing out from the crowd. Good chance at an ivy or two. Better chance at lower ivies. Good luck :)

I’d say you are definitely qualified! If you write good essays and get SAT II scores 750 and above I think you have a solid chance to get into an Ivy.
HYPSC + Penn + Brown = Reach
Cornell + Chicago + Duke = Low reach
Good luck!

thank you guys! I’m working now to start my essays and trying to get more things done that will make my app stand out? Any suggestions for me?

You seem to have a very good chance at any top 20 school. HYPSC would love to have you. Let’s be honest, admissions at those schools are sometimes just a crapshoot. If you apply to all of them, I’m positive that you have a very good chance at getting into at least 1 (maybe 2). Just depends on how well you write your essays and how well written your LoRs are. Good luck!

thanks! I know the ivies are a crapshoot… so I’m just going to cross my fingers and hope for the best and try to add the most I can before November/December!

Nice SATs, class rank etc.
Course load seems to be a concern. Did you take the most rigorous course load possible at school? If yes, then ignore my concern.

Now, all your ECs and stats are competitive and show great promise. However, your stats alone don’t stand out. Thus, you should focus on your essays. I’m not sure because you didn’t show more of yourself. Whereas some people’s hook can be found in their ECs, perhaps you need to find a hook in your personality, daily life etc. It doesn’t matter that you have very very unique ECs though, so don’t worry about that.

My personal strategy for applying is to choose non-single early action in a dream school, a match school, and a safety school. Once early action results come out, I only need to apply, in the regular round, schools that are above those who accepted me. (For example, if the match and safety EA school accepted, I would apply to only my reach schools). Think if this will help you. However, if Yale is truly your sole dream and you could only be satisfied there, go for it.

I took the most rigorous course load, with all the most difficult classes I could take. Some of the classes I took these last 3 years include AP world history, AP euro, AP lang, AP calc, AP stat, IB bio, IB chem, IB french, AP ush, AP psych, IB theory of knowledge, physics honors, drama honors, etc.

I just haven’t gotten my AP scores or IB scores from junior year back. They come out Friday for me.

Ivies: Reach for most probably can get into at least 2of them
Duke: Low Reach
Uchic: Low Reach/Reach

GL

Anything is not just possible but probable with a stellar essay!

I believe you have as good a chance as everyone else when applying to the top20. You meet the benchmarks! If you apply to as many of the top20 you can and want to, I think anywhere from 2-5 will take you

I would appreciate it if you gave me some advice too!
