Chances for Ivies? Will chance back!

csokane, I will assume that question was directed at Spatrick. :D

OP, it might be a good idea to explain what a Revision Club is, both to answer the poster’s question and on your application. I have two graduate degrees and don’t know what a Revision Club is.

If I had to guess, I would say it had something to do with studying for tests, as when we lived in Europe, my children’s friends would “revise” (American English: review) the material before tests, but that is not clear from the name of the club.

I would not list MENSA or any other IQ-related club on the application. Fair or not, some see MENSA as merely a reason to brag and not a true accomplishment.

wow thats amazing, hey do you mind sharing with me how i can work on some international scholorships-- like i see you did?
please !!

Well a revision club is basically a club where I tutor and help kids revise. Simply put, children who are about to take big exams come and my friends and I help them with the goal of attaining 2 grades higher than they attained in the practice tests (e.g. from B to A) and we only tutor subjects in which we attained A for that particular exam (about 14 subjects). Furthermore, if there are students that just want help or are just eager to learn then we tutor them instead of helping them revise and attain higher grades.

I am not sure what you mean by international scholarships, Uma.

Bump! 10char <- I finally understand what that means. :D

Sunlife Mathematics Scholarship Competition [INTERNATIONAL]
Euclid Scholarship Mathematics Competition Distinction [INTERNATIONAL]

By these you mean the COMC (Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge) and the Euclid Contest right? As a domestic participant of these contests(see my location), I would put my scores rather than percentiles on the app. I understand the fact that the international pool is significantly more competitive since all participants are self-selected, but top 30% and top15% doesn’t sound as impressive as it might to better-informed students and adcoms.

PS. (I have a 72 and a 91 in these contests, respectively)

Wow really impressive. I see that lots of people agree with me but no one is mentioning the IB predicted of 44/45. That is ridiculously hard. Last year 86 people got 45/45 in the world. So I assume that not many get 44/45. Plus unlike SAT which is only one test which allows for multiple retakes the IB is a rigorous course throughout a 2 year period where the student has to fulfill many different requirements in order to obtain the diploma.

I say that you have a decent chance to get into any school you want.

Yeh for the Sunlife, I went with no practice. I don’t remember my exact score but it was 60-something. For the Euclid I haven’t got my score back but I know for sure it is over 75, and quite possibly in the 80s. Suppose I got 78, would it be better to say - ‘Got distinction in Euclid competition - score 78, 2 off honor roll (top 2%)’?

Thanks kazakia, I haven’t got my official predicted yet but I know for sure that is not below 43. It’s most likely 44, but it could possibly be 45. Hopeful. :D

60-something and around 80… I would say it wouldn’t matter if you put down the distinction award or your exact score. But screw them, you don’t need them anyways. You have one of the best resume I’ve ever seen and I predict that you’ll get into at least half of the schools you apply to.

Thanks mate, I think I will put distinction and my score in brackets. 91 is a hell of a score, did you reach the USAMO or something? I’d guess you did the Canadian Olympiad because a guy in our school who got 71 in the Sunlife did it.

Wow, this definitely puts me to shame. I think you will get into anywhere honestly, and if you don’t, it’s nothing on your part. Good luck with applications! :D

Thanks a lot for the positive feedback guys. I think it is a good time to point out that when I said I taught 10 kids, I was referring to the prestigious Summerbridge/Breakthrough Collaborative program - ranked in top 10 internships - I actually didn’t know it was prestigious so I didn’t put the name.

I was just wondering what made you guys think that I had high chances, what really stood out on my application? I’m asking so I can emphasize it in my application.

Your leadership, but you also seem to be very well rounded

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/904119-chance-nervous-junior.html</a></p>

Thanks. I picked up SAT again and it seems I learnt some more tips for CR so I am hoping for a 800M, 780-800W, 720-760CR sweep this time: possibly get between a 2300 and a 2360 to consolidate the app. Wow these chances threads actually bring out additional information which could improve my application. For example, I just realized that my Euclid score was actually around 2 marks away (total score of 100, so 2 marks is very little) from the honor roll (mention on the official website of the competition, I think I’m gonna put that on my application).

i think you have an excellent chance all of these scores
great extra currics and academics!
retake the sat to improve your reading score?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/879868-chance-me-get-chance-back-asap-3.html</a></p>

I am retaking in a weeks time, and trying to get 800M, 800W, and 700+ CR  Wish me luck!

Are you wealthy or not wealthy? If you will need Financial Aid, that will hurt you at a lot of these schools, as they are only need blind domestically.

For that reason, ABSOLUTELY apply HYPS even if your SATs stay the same. I’ve heard HYP does need blind international, so depending on your wealth, it might actually be easier for you to get in there than other places.

Its also not as hard to get into those schools as people claim. You’ve hooked yourself pretty well, so with great essays, you’d probably have a 80-90% chance of getting into at least one of them.

I do not need financial aid. So if I get my SAT up to around 2300+, my chances will be great? What if my IB predicted drops from a 44 to a 42?

Strong application- just be sure to highlight your passion in math or robotics. That’s what they want- passion. For me SATs are no biggie for you. I think with a 680, your score can either fall in 650-710? Anyway, if you have the passion and the adcoms see the passion, then you’ll get in.

Wharton - reach

chance me back?

There aren’t many opportunities for me to show my interest in business/economics in Hong Kong, so do you reckon my maths will kind of make up for it (maths is quite related to both subjects)?
