Chances for Ivy League?

<p>I am close to finishing my junior year in high school (11th grade) and am trying to aim for admission into an ivy league school or Stanford. As of now these are my grades/accomplishments going into my senior year (12th grade):</p>

1st Place School Science Fair Winner 10th Grade
(I have won 1st place at district and regional competitions many times in elementary and middle school but that probably won't matter to colleges)</p>

<p>*Have excellent letters of recommendation from a couple teachers</p>

<p>**Received a U.S. Patent for a Solar/Wind clean energy invention in Nov. 2008</p>

<p>**Have a provisional patent for a different invention as of Feb. 2012 and have it also as a patent pending with myself as 'co-inventor'</p>

<p>Overall, I possibly still have my first semester of senior year which will involve me focusing more on science based courses, however my gpa and rank will probably not change.I also come from a school that is ranked in the top 1% of best highschools in America if that makes a difference. I realize that valedictorians with perfect SAT scores get rejected, but I'm trying to be optimistic. My dad went to Stanford and he also really wants me to get into a top school. I realize that I probably don't stick out much or excel in any one area in particular, but I hope that I somehow might be accepted into Stanford or an Ivy League School. Any feedback would be appreciated!</p>

<p>What is your unweighted GPA? Your weighted GPA might be a problem. I applied with a 3.8 unweighted and a 4.9 weighted, and still got rejected. =[</p>

<p>I thought my weighted gpa was decent? But I guess if you had a 4.9 weighted you must have been able to take more ap classes than me during your Freshman and Sophomore years, because I currently have a 3.83 unweighted. And that sucks about getting rejected, makes me feel like I probably don’t have a chance either</p>

<p>Do you have a different scale for weighting ap classes then? because I don’t think you could have UW 3.8 and weighted 4.9 without taking all aps, atleast I don’t think so. I’m taking 5 ap classes currently (Junior year)</p>

<p>No our AP’s are worth 6’s on the weighted scale. Yes I took 4 Honors and 4 academic classes freshman year (required atleast 4A classes) and 7 Honors and 1 Ap my sophomore year. Then junior year I took 5 Ap’s and 3 Honors in school. Also in addition to that I took 2 online.</p>

<p>Your ECs are weak. Bring them up, and I would say you stand a strong chance.</p>

<p>@bricksquad Oh I see, my AP’s are weighted on a 5.0 scale which is why there is such a big gap in our weighted gpa’s. And it looks like we had roughly the same difficulty in types of classes as far as our course load</p>

<p>@Farhad What suggestions might you have for EC’s? I’m already in several clubs and volunteer on a weekly basis. As I said before, I play golf as well as the cello too. I don’t really know what else I could be doing for EC’s that wouldn’t be overwhelming or simply random?</p>

<p>I suggest searching up on CC the official decision threads to colleges you like and reading the extracurriculars the accepted students had. Often times you need extracurriculars beyond clubs, volunteering, music, etc., although there are always exceptions with people who make remarkable impacts with those.</p>
