Chances for JHU, MIT, BC, UPenn, etc.

Regarding MIT:
Don’t listen to FateGoneAwry about science ECs. If you’re really into that, cool. Otherwise, just do something that interests you (and hopefully be really good at it). MIT won’t hold it against you.

Solid chance at most of those, but the ECs could be better.

Thanks guys! I agree that my ECs could be better…unfortunately at my school ninth graders aren’t allowed to be part of any high school clubs (but sports are fine).
Also, ninth grade isn’t weighted at all. I had 5 honors courses that year and none of them counted… grrr. Oh well.
Anybody else?

Any more opinions guys?

I plan on taking the Math II subject test now, instead of the level I.

Also, regarding ECs, I recently got a position with my township’s local civic association as a junior board member, and I will begin volunteering at the local hospital sometime in early spring. I will have invested probably around 200 hours in those activities by the time senior year starts. Does that change anything about my application?

Thanks for reading this super long post haha! I appreciate it!

Help guys! Does the new info I posted above help my chances at all? I don’t want to come off as lazy or unmotivated… Can I do anything else to prevent this?

Princeton is the only one that will give you a problem i feel. I think U Penn is definitely possible and so are all the others. good luck and please chance back.

o sorry. i didnt see MIT. That one also will be tough for you to get in. I still could see you getting into U Penn which is a great school!

Thanks jisaacs! I will chance you back in a minute.

You are in at the lower prestige colleges I feel, but the big name ones like MIT etc. will need more dedicated EC’s. The ECs you’ve listed are common. You need stuff that sets you apart to get into UPenn etc.

I think personally you have a great resume with great EC’s and UPenn or MIT are high matches! Otherwise you are on the right track with all of them!

Thanks guys! Also, I forgot to mention that I got my PSAT scores back. I scored a 223! This means I will most likely be a semifinalist in PA.

Does being a NMSF help at all? Thanks again!

somewhat, but point is No body can guarentee you IVYs and the other schools you are IN.You should have used your ED bullet by now and you would have been somewhere by now.

fatherofm, I’m a junior right now. Hopefully, I can decide which college(s) to apply to early by fall next year. Thanks for all your help before!

Help guys!
