Chances for Johns Hopkins University...Please?

I have a few top-tier colleges I’m looking at with accredited schools such as Georgetown U and UPenn, but JHU is my top choice right now. I plan are pursuing a degree in International Relations/studies or History. This is my current status:

-African-American female
-Weighted GPA: 4.5, Unweighted GPA: 3.96 (A avg.)

  • In top 15% of class
-Leader of Creative Writing Club at school, also a Historian in SGA (active in both clubs for four years)
-active in NHS, National Society of High School Scholars, Prom Committee, my school’s flag team (all 4 years), and was the leader of my school’s international club (only lasted one year)
-volunteered in town’s Historical Society and Art Council and local Girl Scout troops
-scored 1640 on SAT (yeah, it was bad), I plan on taking the ACT this September and scored an est.32
-also plan on taking 3 SAT subject tests (Lit, Spanish, and History) in October
-has taken AP US Government (scored a 3), AP US History (Scored a 4) and AP World (also scored a 4) and will take AP Literature, Stats, and Human Geo next year
-I have taken up to Calculus/Environmental Science and plan on taking Physics (school doesn’t offer AP Physics or Chem, sorry)
-Taken up to Spanish 4, studying French/Russian in my free time
    -Honor Roll Status

…and I believe that covers the basics. If I’m missing anything, please alert me. Other than that, I guess it’s fair to say I also come from a low-income family, am a first generation college-bound student, and live in Maryland. May you help me?

I think you have a great shot! You have a very high GPA and your ECs look good. Just work on the essays and you’ll be fine. I would suggest doing ED for JHU if you are sure it’s your top choice; I know for JHU especially they love ED applicants.

Wow, that was a quick response! I was worried about doing ED because I thought I wouldn’t make it through, but I’ll give it a shot. Do you have any tips for the essay?

Your GPA is very good and everything else makes you a pretty competitive applicant but if your standardized test scores can’t match then you are going to have a harder time.

Okay, I will definitely work on that, then. Merci beaucoup

Apply to their fly-in weekend. I believe it’s called HOME. They will cover the cost if you are low-income. People accepted to HOME have a good record of being admitted.
