bump......

Ping Pong.....???

Pretty good scores, however its kinda hard to chance without a Weighted GPA or Class Rank. Then again itspractically impossible to realistically chance anyone for the top colleges.

So, YES you do have a chance, but so do all the other thousands of applicants who apply to said colleges.

The Ping Pong thing is pretty unique, I think.

bump......one last time

whoo! classic asian. high-five

you pretty much exemplify the archetype. GPA is great, SAT scores are great (should take another one though), EC's are very solid. that ping-pong thing is pretty significant too, you get my respect for that =P

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're in at Columbia (don't kill me for saying so .__.). Princeton is always a crapshoot, but you have a chance.

yeah, i pretty much am the classic asian, especially with the ping pong...
zephyravatar, why should i take another SAT?, jw

I think zephyravatar meant that you should take another SAT II, as your top reaches require 3 SAT II's, anyway.

Aside from ping pong, your EC's are pretty lacking. Grades and scores are fine. I say for you to focus on your EC's--get some leadership positions.

yeah, that's what I meant >.< need a third SAT II for Princeton and such

captain of cross-country isn't bad for leadership, though perhaps you can find a leadership position in some sort of volunteering. I think the ping pong is almost as good as a hook though. I'm sure they'll understand that being a ping pong coach takes up lots of time.

not to be negative, but ping-pong isn't that great of a hook, given that you're asian. but, seeing as columbia is just dying to have high yield rates, you're almost definitely in at Columbia ED, (don't get arrested and you'll be fine)

mention your ECs, being a "leader" in a club doesn't necessarily mean you have to have a leadership position.

depending on the private school (if it's a feeder school, really prestigious, etc. you ahve a decent chance at princeton). take a third SAT ii tho.

your stats are comparable to mine (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/513033-please-chance-me-ivys-uk-schools-updated.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/513033-please-chance-me-ivys-uk-schools-updated.html</a>) except that you have awards and I have leadership positions but i think you will have an edge. don't stress too much but try to sound unique.. as great as you are at ping pong, remember that you ARE asian but i doubt that will affect you :)

good luck!

is ping pong really that asian?? haha

haha ya it really is lol

it is, but if you're nationally ranked, it's still gonna be good on paper.

but im worried for ur asian/pingpong/piano combination.

haha...i doubt college admissions officers take race into consideration **that **much.

chancing people for ivies in tough. getting in is so ridiculous that they turn down very qualified people, so it's a toss up. but, you are probably good for hopkins and wash, and have a decent chance at stanford (my friend who is less qualified than you was wait listed), although i would put it in the same league as the ivies.
