Jmu- In
Vtech - Reject
Penn State University Park- Reject
University of Texas austin- Reject
George Mason- In
Mary Washington- Reject
UCLA- Reject, unless your dad's friend pulls a lot of weight
UCSD- Reject
UCSB- Probably in

I am not trying to discourage you, it is just that some of these schools that you have listed are not easy to gain admission to. Best of luck.

ya i know most of em are big reaches n i doubt i will even get into jmu because so many kids apply from northern Virginia but dont get in cuz all the dumb kids from south VA have to get in as well.....

any 1 else got ideas?

bump...need more input come on help a kid out

I am not too familiar with the other schools, but with you being OOS, you might want to check if you are eligible for UCs (you may need a 3.4)

I would definitely take up your dad's friend's offer, UCLA is awesome

yeah dont feel bad about using your dads friend to help you get into a good school

world's a ***** gotta use what what you can...

You might want to go to the "college search" part of this forum and ask for advice; I think you might want to look for a few more schools.

thanks for the advice....don't get me wrong i am definitely going to take the opportunity to UCLA but i want to see if i can get into any decent colleges on my own

any 1 else have some input?

UCs also have a different weighting system. They only take 8 semesters of weighted courses and only Honors Pre Calculus and Honors Jr. English count as weighted grades

You would have a chance at George Washington U, but it is really pricey. You could try U Maryland for the January term, which is easier. And UMBC.

Well, I'm slightly offended at your "dumb kids from Southern VA" comment, since I am from that area, and believe me, we have no shortage of smart people.

I think that you have a reasonable chance at all of your VA public schools (meaning that they are match schools, with your best chance at George Mason), and I think that you will get into a Penn State satellite campus (not the main campus). Don't know about the CA schools, or Texas school.

lima bean you know for a fact us nova kids face much more competition, harder curriculum's, and ridiculous grading scales come one a 94 for an A, and sorry to offend you but south Virginia is not filled with the brightest bunch

What does having a harder curriculum have to do with being inherently smarter?

Lima_bean/DCSPORTSFAN.....this is a REALLY stupid argument to have. DCSPORTSFAN, I thought this thread was to discuss your college chances. Anyway, have you looked into any more safety schools/reaches?
