Chances for Kent, Taft, Choate, Westminster, etc!

<p>Hey all!
I think this is going to be my very final thread before I send in my application, but here goes!</p>

<p>I am a Female Caucasian Sophomore applying as a repeat Sophomore to the following schools: Tabor, Porter's, Choate, Taft, Loomis, Westminster, and Kent. If you could tell me which schools are a reach, and which schools I actually stand a chance at, I'd really appreciate it! I'm currently at a small private day school that is comparable to Governor's Academy. I don't need any FA.</p>

<p>I currently have an 88% average and my grades for the first Trimester are as followed:
Geometry: 84%
English: 88%
Spanish II: 91%
European History: 90%
Chemistry: 88%
Broadcast Media (Elective): 89%
My grades put me in the spot for my school's Honor Roll!</p>

<p>Last year, my average was an 82% and before that, it was a 72%. I've been working really hard, and my trend is <em>hopefully</em> somewhat impressive. </p>

<p>My SSAT Scores are as followed:
Verbal: 90%
Reading: 79%
Quantitative: 40% (Ew, I know)
Overall: 77%</p>

<p>Interviews:
Taft: We connected several times on the topic of reading though and he seemed impressed by my overall trend of grades. This is my second time applying. I hope he didn't think I was boring! :(</p>

<p>Westminster: My interviewer loved me! She and I talked for what seemed like hours and she seemed really impressed by everything I have accomplished. I also spoke to the theatre director who happily exclaimed "I'M SO EXCITED! I get you for three whole years!" :D</p>

<p>Loomis: My interviewer seemed a bit put-off by my former grades, but she also seemed impressed by my improvement. She was very sweet, and we talked about my weakness in math, but I also mentioned how hard I'm working. She seemed to like me. I talked to the theatre director who loved me. She was so sweet, and everyone made me feel right at home (My interviewer told my mom how the theatre can "recruit" students and have a say in the admissions process)</p>

<p>Tabor: My interviewer and I found common ground as her son and I played in the same tennis tournament! I was able to speak to the theatre director after my interview, and he seemed like he was hinting at the idea I had a good chance.</p>

<p>Porter's: Not yet!</p>

<p>Kent: Not yet!</p>

<p>Choate: Not yet! (However, this is my second time applying)</p>

<p>Here are my EC's!
Arts:
• I was a lead role in a major motion film in 2012 (I was in sixth grade and I had several lines)
• I was a finalist for an educational kids reality show on PBS (20th place out of 4,000)
• I have been singing since I was five and I was featured on two Public Service Announcements that aired across the country (For the Red Cross and a foundation set up after the Oklahoma Tornado)
• I have been featured Off-Broadway (NYC) and in several main roles in Equity productions across Boston and the New England area
• I have been dancing since I was five on-and-off since I was five (Ballet, jazz, tap)
• Every year since I first came to my school in fourth grade, I've been selected for my school's annual arts celebration
• Altogether, I've been in 30 musical theatre productions. </p>

<p>Athletics:
• I have been playing tennis since I was five and I am going to be #1 on varsity this year as a Sophomore
• My tennis team won the state championship this summer and overall, we placed fifth in New England
• I ski, golf, fish and sail casually
• I would love to try field hockey during the fall months</p>

<p>Clubs and other EC's
• I am the founder and president of my school's first ever feminist club (Over 50 members) It is one of the biggest clubs on campus, and one of two clubs run by an underclassmen.
• I have been a member of Model UN for a couple months, and in my first conference ever, I won the Honorable Delegate Award at the Phillips Exeter Model UN conference.
• I'm a member of GSA, Book Club, Wellness Club, and Debate (I'm currently taking action for more sex education in the high school division of my school as there is not too much awareness and creating an initiative for free feminine supplies for girls in the bathrooms. I brought back my school's monthly health newsletter singlehandedly)
• Every Tuesday, I stay after school and help elementary schoolers with homework and then help with a healthy eating/cooking demonstration
• I work for two charities: End 68 Hours of Hunger and the Clearcause Foundation. I pack food, and altogether, I have raised over $3,000 in just under two years! I also wrap Christmas presents for lower-class families around me, as well as previously cleaning up the town library and sorting and organizing food for senior citizens, also helping them make crafts for Christmas!
• For the past two years, I have been selected as part of an elite program outside my school for research projects. Last year, I made a documentary on the history of my school, and this year, I'm doing a photography project on feminism (A mixture between Humans Of New York and Project Unbreakable) Only 20 students are selected each year to take part, so it's a huge honor!</p>

<p>My English teacher is a Choate alum (She promised to put in a good word), and my mom's friend is a former Trustee at Choate who is willing to make some phone calls. My Spanish teacher used to work at Taft and he himself said he thinks I would be an attractive student based on how hard I work in class. He agreed to write a personal rec. for me. My family friend is big in the TSAO, and he knows directors at all of the schools I'm applying to. He promised to help in anyway he could.</p>

<p>My weakness is math, and I try to voice to schools that it's a weakness I'm willing to work on. However, I'm hoping schools will realize "Hey! Everything else is pretty darn impressive!" and know that for my field, I'm doing very well. </p>

<p>Thanks in advance, you guys!</p>

<p>I have no idea if you’re going to get in, but GOOD LUCK!! You seem to have great ECs.
I’m applying to Kent and Choate also. </p>

<p>@mathman1201‌ Awesome! Thanks a bunch, dude :)</p>

<p>Anybody else…?</p>

<p>Wow, your ECs are great! They definitely override that one SSAT score you have, but it doesn’t matter because schools mostly look at the overall score anyway… they don’t have too much time to analyze everything in depth. I’d say that you have really strong chances! Schools love the type of community services that you do.</p>

<p>Will you marry me now?</p>

<p>@mathman1201‌ Definitely. June wedding? I say we ride in on stallions as a hundred doves are released into the air above us. </p>

<p>@fluffymilk‌ Thank you, love! <3 </p>

<p>Yup, that sounds great. :P</p>

<p>I think you have a chance. BS definitely like students who are willing to put in the work on something they’re not the best at. Good luck. </p>

<p>Oh, and your quantitive reasoning score…mine was about the same as yours. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Your EC’s would probably overrule that. </p>

<p>@02gloves‌ Thanks, man! :)</p>

@historygeek40 well, currently I am prep school and I applied to very similar schools like all of you did, from the looks of your grades it would seem to be that choate and loomis, and taft would be the hardest for you. Your Ec’s are very good, but ssats do have some weight, try your best during interviews, im assuming you are an incoming sophomore if you applied before, you probably then have a better chance re-applying. Take the ssats again and keep up with your grades. It seems like the arts will help you out. Oh and by the way commit to one school if you know which one you want to go to. Oh and I go to Milton Academy near Boston

@elephant17‌ Hi! Thank you for getting back to me! I really appreciate it  Since those schools are going to be the hardest for me, do you think it means I stand no chance at all? And I am applying as a repeat Sophomore

@historygeek40 you do have a chance, whats the biggest thing that will make you stand out is what you can portray in an interview. If you do get waitlisted I would consider taking a look back at the other schools you got into, its hard to get off a waitlist, there is not much you can do.

@elephant17‌ Okay, awesome, thanks! I’m really good at interviewing so I think I’m pretty good there.
