Chances for Lakeside Upper School, Seattle?

Hi so I just want to know my chances of getting into Lakeside.

SSAT Score (so far): 98 %ile overall, 96 Verbal, 89 Reading, 98 Quantitive, total score 2274 -taking again b/c aiming for 99%ile-

Grades: Straight-A’s in 7th grade (last year) and in First Trimester of 8th (just started 2nd Tri)

Gender: Female

Race: Asian-American (disadvantage??)

Age: recently turned 13 (young for my grade)

Hobbies: Painting and drawing (9 years), skiing (3 years), dancing (ballet, jazz, lyrical) (4 years), piano (7 years), musical composition (2 years), writing (since school? haha) NOT SPORTY, VERY INTO ALL ARTS (music, visual art, writing)

Awards: 2 Superior Ratings (piano), 1 Honorable Mention (piano), 1 Second Place (MC), 1 Third Place (MC), 1 Regional Winner (writing–poem), 1 Event Winner (writing–essay)

Other: I volunteer, do public speaking/debate camps

Interview: went :-/ … broke eye contact a few times, seemed a little awkward, no thank-you note (didn’t think of it)

Financial Aid: Nope

Applied Before: Yeah, in 6th grade, but then I was a B+ ish student (never tried until rejected by Lakeside) and had 88 %ile for the SSAT

*I’m just really nervous because I was confident (idk why) in 6th grade but I got rejected and cried for 4 hours :)) *

Thanks for sacrificing your time for this thing that won’t affect you

This is a very late comment, but I was wondering if you did get into Lakeside School? My daughter just finished her application into 9th grade and I was just curious.

My reply is even later, haha. I was unfortunately waitlisted, and I had 2 of my classmates with worse grades and significantly lower score on the SSAT admitted due to their long family history with Lakeside.

That’s brutal. Straight A’s. 98%. All those hobbies. Bodes poorly for my son’s application. Curious - did you hit the 99% mark on SSAT?

Very competitive school. OP seems to have had a poor interview.

On the bright side, applying in 6th grade motivated her to get straight A’s for 2 years. I know my son learned a ton just studying for the SSATs, and in his case, his score was pretty validating. He will definitely cry for 4 hours if he doesn’t get in.

Turns out straight A honors classes, 99% SSATs, SYSO participation, soccer, jazz band, and whatever he put on his essays, SSAT essay, teacher letters, and interview were enough. Apparently it can be done. Pretty arduous though. I think dreamer just missed the cut off. I mean, how many wait-listers can they possibly have?

no, i took it again and increased my score only slightly so it was still a 98

@SeaDad, does your son go to public school for his middle school?
