What are your chances for transfering into an LEP if you were not directly admitted to one?
Also, is there another way to get into the Honor's College or to graduate with honors?

I was wondering something similar. I am so happy to be accepted, but I really wanted to major in civil engineering. I know it is an limited enrollment or whatever, but I did get into the honors program. My main question is basically is it worth it to go to Maryland and hopefully later get into the civil engineering program? Will I have a good chance of being able to change? Right now it says that I am majoring in Letters and Science. Im not really sure I know what that means — Any help is much appreciated!

Yea, thats similar to what I was thinking. Is there a point going to UMD if I won’t get the chance to major in what I want?

Letters and Sciences is where they place you if you do not get into your LEP. You can take the regular intro courses for what you intend to major in. If your GPA is high enough, you can transfer into your preferred major.

Letters and Sciences isn’t a bad thing. Assuming you do well which I am sure you will, you should have no problem graduating from UMD with the major of your choice.

Do a majority of people who apply get in? Is just fulfilling the requirements enough?

Honors at admission doesn’t mean much other than where you live. You can absolutely graduate with honors, department honors that reflect your college performance that mean far more than your high school performance.

As for LEP. For engineering school, the only requirement is maintaining a 3.0 and taking some required classes that other engineering students take, so it isn’t too hard.

For business, it is far more competitive and you can only apply in your 3rd semester or something.
