Hi,
I am interested in whether I might get into Michigan with my statistics.

I have a low GPA- 3.34 unweighted (health issues)

I got my SAT results back yesterday:

1540-2340 (800 CR, 740 Math, 800 writing)
also 800 Math II C, 770 US History. Will take French and Chemistry in January.

I skipped a year in Math and French. Normally juniors at our high school only take one AP if they do at all, I took three:

exam results:

BC Calc 5 with 5 AB subscore
AP French 5
AP US History 5

National merit semifinalist, AP scholar.

This year's schedule

AP European History
AP Statistics
Discrete Mathematics at Boston University (college credit)
Seminar on Middle East that I helped organize- 4 highly motivated students, my headmaster (who will write me a letter of recommendation) and the head of the history department. At the end of the year we will publish our papers, I think I may submit my paper on Palestinian Economics as a supplemental material.
European Literature Honors (No AP at the high school)
Second Semester I will begin study of Turkish at Harvard Extension School
(I wish to learn Hebrew, Arabic and Turkish)

I have gotten all As this quarter at high school. I think same will be next quarter.

Extracurriculars:ballroom dance at competitive level is my most important activity. Also guitar lessons, ceramic classes with a local artist, and volunteer tutoring of mathematics for 7th graders.

Wow! You have great stats...but what I've been noticing is that most of the kids with lower than normal expected GPA acceptance from Umich have gotten deferred...but I'm sure you'll be on the top of the list of accepted of the deferral pool (heheh, me in there as well). They do this I think so that they can see that you can still maintain a high GPA right now...and I'm sorry about the health issue! You'll be fine :) 'side your courses are rigorous :)

You're obviously a good candidate with such a high SAT score. You should probably write a note explaining the health issue. If you don't get in right away, I think you'll be accepted after being deferred.

my friend had really good everything but had a 3.3 GPA. Really similar to you. But your schedule and AP record is much better than his and you can note health reasons. He ended up getting (found out couple weeks ago) the good defferal. This basically says as long as u keep up grades, pretty much accepted. It is almost a guaranteed acceptance. So what im trying to say is that since u are better then his scores and you have a health reason, you should get in right away. If not u will get at worst good defferal and thus will get in. But i say 75% chance u get accepted right away

I'll break it straight:

Umich cares mostly about GPA. You can have a 3.4 and a 35 ACT and you probably won't get in. Considering you have a valid reason for a low GPA, however, I can see how they might take you into special consideration.

However, I would not be too optimistic. 25% chance acceptance, most likely a deferral.

Orangetree, you really must have the school and the medical authorities explain your medical situation. Clearly, you are a very qualified candidate. Your NMS status, along with your 5s on your APs and 1500+ on the SAT prove that.
