Chances for M.T. at Elon

One of my students is very interested in Elon for Musical Theater. He hasnt' visited yet due to distance. Has his audition scheduled for Feb. Can anyone give us input on his chances:
African American male from Western New York
89.6 GPA, 2 AP
Advanced regents diploma (NY)
510 Math, 560 Verbal
Varsity Tennis
Class officer
2 years Area All State Choir
6 years All County Choir
Part time job
President Concert Choir
Leading roles in school musical and plays
Theater Intern
studying private voice and dance

Traveling to N.C. for the audition will be a financial difficulty for his family, so he will only have the one visit. Any thoughts or input is appreciated.

Hmmmm… hard to say. His SATs are both below Elon’s mid 50% range ( both Math and Verbal mid 50% range for Elon is 570 - 660). Is the GPA weighted or unweighted?

On the surface, his stats are a little low. But his extra-curriculars look good, and Elon loves active, involved kids. Being male is helpful (Elon is almost 60% female) and being an under-represented minority is helpful too.

But the biggest question is the MT program. Elon’s MT program is extremely competitive, I think they only take about 2 dozen kids per year. There’s a mom on CC whose daughter was accepted into NYU’s MT program and turned down from Elon’s.

So I really couldn’t venture a guess on his chances. Maybe 50/50? Sorry, I know that’s not very helpful.

Thanks Lafalum. He knows it’s a reach. His GPA is unweighted. Hopes to get the SAT up in Dec. and have a great audition. I have been telling him that being a minority male is def. to his advantage in this admissions game!
