Chances for many schools

I'm from Maryland and come from a school with prestigious academics. Newsweek Top 100... the whole shebang. We have 2,600 students or so and do not rank. My class size is around 650 I believe.

If anyone has any predictions about the following schools, please let me know! Yes, I am applying/have applied to all on the list. I know, I'm crazy. Don't think I'm one of those people who just wants to get in everywhere. I'm just very indecisive. =)

Sorry, for USC I only meant to ask about scholarship in general. I have a friend who has similar everything to me who attended the same high school and was offered a full ride.

Well, you can definitely get into Maryland, Pitt, Michigan, BC, UCSD, and Miami. I'd also feel pretty good about Cornell, Duke, UVA, USC. UCB and UCLA are really tough for anyone who's from out of state so don't get your hopes up there. You definitely have the grades and course load for all the other schools, but ECs seem a bit short. Are you involved in any school level activities other than sports and community service? I'd peg your chances at Stanford 51-49 since you're going SCEA and 50-50 for WashU, but at 40-60 for Penn and Columbia.

Oh, sorry forgot about the aid stuff. I don't know about your families finances so I can't comment on those, but your grades seem good enough that you could get a decent scholarship or full ride at any of the schools you marked down.

The aid would have to be merit based... but yeah UCLA and UCB are tough. As for extracurriculars... sports take up most of my time. From early September to March I am in wrestling. This makes my schedule very tough to do any other activities in this time period. I have to be at school at 7 and don't get home until 7. Wrestling practices go from right after school until 6. Lacrosse practices had an hour break and then went until it got dark (around 6:30.) Considering my courseload, what time would I have for anything else? lol... and you gotta have fun with friends and all. The kids from my school who have applied seem to get in pretty consistently to UCLA and UCB though. Check it out if you'd like!

Just enter as a guest, go to college search and find them. Stanford is pretty ridiculous as seen by the graph. Same with all the Ivies other than Cornell.

Oh and for the consistently getting in... that really applies to UCLA more than UCB at my school. There isn't much ACT data but if you convert to the SAT, my scores are in the range of a lot of acceptances and pretty much no denials. The process is obviously a crap shoot though so you never really know until that spring notification date.

Oh and for Stanford... from what I hear, Early Action only really gives you the benefit of knowing sooner. Whoever would get in regular round is either accepted or deferred. Obviously this is all in theory since they can not perfectly predict the strength and size of their upcoming applicant pool.

bumpbumpbump

I'm guessing that if your school is really prestigious (Wootton? I met 2 people at USABO finals who went there, they both made the national team) , your GPA ought to be an asset.

I'm thinking that your problem might be your lack of non sports extracurrics, although your test scores and course load show that you are relatively strong in that area. Perhaps you might consider focusing your essay and recs on showing your academic side, as opposed to your sports side?

Good guess on the school! I believe that is my main problem too. My essay was actually about a disappointing community service project that came up short and I learned a lot from. I enjoy doing community service a lot so I thought it would represent me well. Hell, if I don't get in, then oh well! It's what I like so it's what I'll write about. The funny thing is that since I'm the president of the NHS at the school, EVERYONE of my friends tells me I'm a sure shot at Stanford. Little do they know the absurd masses of diverse and intelligent people applying. The average accepted GPA from our school at Stanford is a 4.71. With certain graduation requirements such as an art credit, tech credit, health credit, gym credit... not to mention not a single honors spanish offered other than 3, the highest possible weighted GPA is around a 4.75 if you've taken a few spanish levels. It's crazy! 4.71 means essentially having two B's if you've taken ALL AP and honors when you could.

Actually, that was a really good guess. I think our county has about 5 schools on the Top 100 list. I would have a lot of trouble finding another public school system with as many on the list. Academics are crazy here.

Anyone yet?
