Chances for McGill University

Alright, so McGill is my #1 university choice and I would love to know if I have a shot.

Wtd GPA: 4.04
Unwtd GPA: 3.83
SAT:
Critical Reading- 620
Math- 510
Writing- 610
Essay- 10
ACT:
English- 31
Math- 26
Science- 29
Reading- 29
Composite- 29

Coursework:
Potential IB candidate with HL Psych, HL English, HL Biology, SL Math, SL Music, SL Spanish

I would love to go to this school, and I know my SAT is a little low, but I'm hoping my classes and ACT score will balance that out.

NOTE: My school is a combo of IB World and a regular high school, I know this affects admissions because the composite score has less weight.

I am looking to enter in the Microbiology/Immunology program, or the Life Sciences.
What do you guys think?

Basically, I want to know if SAT is weighted as strongly as the ACT and GPA.

McGill does not “weight” per se. They publish minimum cutoffs for consideration. Your math SAT is below the minimum for even the least selective programs. For Life Sciences, the minimum SAT is 670 in each section of the SAT I and in two SAT II’s. The minimum for the ACT is 30 composite with no subscore below 26. Do NOT send your SAT’s!!

on my ACT I got a 30R, 31W, 31M, and 25S, does that mean my chance of going to McGill is utterly ruined?

McGill is pretty easy to get into, but a 1730 SAT score doesn’t look so great.

People have gotten in with much less. Just because you didn’t make the minimum requirement doesn’t mean they’ll toss your application away. It would help your chances if you apply early.

McGill, an easy school to get into? If you’re talking about humanities or social sciences, maybe. But life sciences, BiomedE, ChemE and MechE are selective to the point where you may as well apply to Ivies if your ECs are good enough and still have a shot.

That page: [Admissions Standards - U.S. High School | Applying to Undergraduate Studies - McGill University](http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/standards/unitedstates) states explicitly that what’s on that page are the lowest stats of the people admitted. However, apply to another major that isn’t a life science one, on top of the microbiology/immunology major and you’ll be golden.

Getting into McGill in-province is not much harder than at any other Quebec university, though. In fact, McGill is considered a safety for in-province, social work hopefuls.
