Hooks:

Schools
1. Stanford
2. Rice
3. U of Chicago
4. Brown

I’m sorry, if you are a “Middle Class Asian,” you are not considered a minority.

It’s spelled “Stanford,” by the way facepalm
Why do you personally want to go to Stanford, anyway?

Your SAT scores are far too low for any of your listed colleges, although your ECs are decent and your curriculum reasonably challenging.

im retaking them, i just winged it during my sophomore year w/o any prep
i like it’s setting/bio program, and it’s my “dream school”

bummmmmmmmmmmmmmmp

updated schools.

 1. Rice (ED)
 2. Stanford
 3. U Chicago

safeties:
UT
TAMU

bumpmmmmmmmp

I’d say you have a pretty good chance at getting into one of those colleges. Your GPA is high (imo) and your course load is pretty rigorous. I also admire all of your EC’s…pretty impressive list you got there.

If I were you I would just apply, surely you’d get accepted to at least one of the colleges on your top 4.

Do you live in Texas? UT is not a safety unless you are a Texas resident. I don’t see you getting into Stanford because it is super-selective. Although your ECs are good, it will be difficult to improve on your SAT scores to levels that will make you competitive.

Yeah, i’m automatically accepted into UT and TAMU under the 10% rule.

that was my first ever SAT which i did in sophomore year.
i did it w/o knowing anything because my counselor gave me a waiver and I was like “why not, its free”
so with 3 months of intense practice, i can and will raise my score +300 points.

bumppppppp

Your ECs, Rank, and GPA are impressive. However, the SAT score could hurt you at top notch schools on your list. Try Testmasters-it helped me raise my score by 210 pts. BTW, what school do you go to? I am in Houston, TX as well.

Rice (ED) Match

Stanford Reach As it is for everyone however considering your EC leadership and subtracting your asianess (lol I’m asian too) I would say 40%??? lol I know it’s an arbritrary number but Stanford is a crapshoot for everyone.

U Chicago match - however UC is getting more and more competitive, this could change.

I would recommend Umich and JHu for Biomed, not so sure about straight up biology.
Also are you a URM??? or a Orm???

Honestly, I don’t think your chances are great at Rice or at Stanford. UChicago, maybe/probably.
That SAT is really hurting you. If you can really improve it by 300 points, it would help a lot.
(You have 6 Bs and you’re still ranked 13th? Wow. At my school, the top ten are usually straight As…)
Anyway, congrats on being top 10%. ECs and rank ARE impressive, but to be very honest, you look like a lot of other applicants. Do you have any distinguishing awards that would make you stand out?

I’m in Houston too! Haha. Where do you guys go?

Cinco Ranch (in Katy)

Maybe this is a totally obvious question, but where’s AP Bio? Why’d you take anatomy and physiology as a regular class (is it not offered advanced, or did you choose not to take it advanced)? Why are you taking APES senior year instead of a more rigorous science class? If your interest is really in science, you should take the most challenging science classes possible. Colleges will ask questions like that.

Also, why don’t you have many science-based EC’s? Band, newspaper, etc. are all good EC’s, and you’re clearly passionate about them, but if you want to go into the sciences, having something more science-based would help.

You might want to improve your national recognition (it’s not too late). You have a fair amount of leadership positions locally, but you’re not winning any awards nationally or regionally.

That said, you’re a first-generation college student, which helps a LOT. Are you sure you’d be happy going to Rice, even though if you get in ED you lose the opportunity to go to Stanford? I think that given your first-generation status, colleges will be more lenient on you, and I think you do have a shot at getting in early, especially if you pull up the SAT’s. Stanford is a pretty far reach. Chicago is still a reach, but it’s closer than Stanford.

^ Anatomy and Physiology is not an AP or Honors course at any high school… not even mines
