Chances For Me/Is It Right?

Hello everyone, I am a rising junior in an extremely competetive private school in LI, and I am looking for some ideas about how and where to apply. I am an Israeli-American, and I am the youngest of 4 brothers and sisters (BU, Harvard, McGill). My family is a very ambitious one, and they have long pushed me towards top colleges (I have already visited a couple), but I am nervous as to whether I am good enough. For the record, it should be noted that my strongest application creds would come in interview, essay, and recs. I know I am not as flashy on paper, which worries me. I have yet to take the SAT, those those are a projection based on previous practice tests and PSAT. I would really appreciate some opinion and suggestion on adding something, improving something, etc.

I dont' know much of NYU, despite living in LI. I would be applying to the college of arts and sciences to study poli sci and maybe a minor in spanish. Also, would this be a safety/middle/match/reach for me? Would I get in/Is it right for me?
I will chance back if a link is given. Thanks!!!

bump…
id appreciate anything really…

what is your gpa using the 4-pt scale?

no clue…if i were to guess…
id say 3.5 or so unweighted? we dont have AP’s but my raw average is low 90’s
9th grade-high 80’s
10th grade-mid 90’s
expecting 11th and 12th to be low 90’s.

I would say you have a decent shot, probably a match. Your SAT scores are average and you have a lot of ECs. Your GPA is a little below but you do go to a competitive high school so that may compensate a little bit. These are the new options for sent scores. Depending on how you do on retakes or whatever, one may benefit you more than the other.

The SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests or

The ACT (with Writing Test) or

The SAT Reasoning Test and two AP exam scores* or

Three SAT Subject Test scores in non-language tests (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one of the student’s choice) or

Three AP exam scores (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one non-language of the student’s choice)

I think the people above me are giving you less credit than you deserve. Your project SAT scores are really good, especially since you’re just a rising junior. By the end you take the SAT near the end of Junior year, you’ll be able to do great, I’m sure of it.

As for SAT II, don’t take Hebrew because NYU doesn’t like native speakers taking their own language.

So far, you’re looking good. Great chance if you keep going the way you’re going.

Wow your only entering junior year and already have a very good looking resume there.

Everything looks good so far, keep doing well in school, take the SAT a couple more time and you should be fine. Good luck and keep it up.

thanks everyone I really appreciate it!
last question: is there any sense in taking AP tests if a) i am not taking those AP’s and b) I am taking that same subject’s SAT 2?

Yeah… if you can do well you will show colleges that you are ambitious and it certainly can’t hurt. You’ll also probably really enjoy getting some college credit down the line. Why not?
