Chances for me?

I posted a chances thread here a while ago, but I've revised my list a bit since then, so I hope it's okay if I post again.

Schools I'm interested in:

* American U
* Boston U
* Brown U
* C William and Mary
* Columbia U Columbia
* George Washington U (School of International Affairs)
* Georgetown U (School of Foreign Service)
* Johns Hopkins U
* Macalester C
* Middlebury C
* Skidmore C
* Stanford U
* Tufts U
* U Calif Berkeley
* U Chicago
* U of Mary Washington
* Vassar C

Stats:

caucasian, female, middle class, public school in Michigan (not particularly competitive, but not a bad school either)

GPA: 3.865 (uw, don't know weighted)
Class Rank: 44/293
PSAT: 233
SAT: 760 R, 720 M, 660 W (didn't do too bad on the multiple choice, but totally bombed the essay for some reason; I'm normally good at writing-type things)
ACT: 34
Likely to become a national merit finalist
took AP Eng Lang and AP US History this year; will probably get a 4 or 5 on the English, and a 3 to 5 (my teacher wasn't very good) on the History
SAT II: 730 USH, 780 Lit

Taking two classes at a Washington University (in St. Louis) over the summer, and will probably get an A- or A on them (if grades are given).

Freshman:
American Studies (two-hour block class, English and US history) A
German I A
AGS II (algebra, geometry, and statistics) A
Earth Space Science (semester) A
Integrated Physical Science (sem.) A
Orchestra A

Sophomore:
Literature and Composition (sem.) A
Speech B+
Biology A
Economics (sem.) A
US Government (sem.) A
Orchestra A
German II A
AGS III A

Junior: (not sure of the grades, but I think the average is an A-)
APUSH
Pre-Calc
AP Eng Lang
Orchestra
German III
Chemistry

I've taken the most challenging schedule possible so far, excepting science classes (just took Chem last year instead of AP Bio) and taking orchestra instead of another academic class.

Next year:
AP English Lit
AP Calculus
Honors Humanities (block class for one English credit and one social studies credit)
German IV (not officially AP, but I'll most likely be taking the test)
Gym (required for graduation)

I'll probably be able to get all As or A-'s next year.

Extra-Curricular Activities: (when I say present I mean I plan on continuing them through senior year)
Destination Imagination: first grade through the present
Violin: school (as a class) orchestra, 5th through 11th; private lessons, 5th through the present
World Cultures Club (at school, like a combination of the language clubs with some other cultures thrown in): 10th through present
I attempted to join German club freshman year, but it dissolved after just a couple meetings due to lack of participation
Quiz Bowl: 10th through present

Awards:
likely a national merit semi-finalist, possibly a finalist
various academic awards throughout school (don't remember what subjects I got them in)

If it makes any difference, I'm planning on majoring in International Relations.

You don't really DO anything. Studying German is good. But you have no interesting/legitimate ECs and no passion.

And international relations at Georgetown and CU? Incredibly competitive.

American, Macalester, and U Mary Washington seem like good bets. But the rest are reaches/high matches.

But I really don't see Berkeley, Stanford, Brown, or Tufts happening either. You could get one, but you just won't be competitive.

Why not UMich? You're instate and guaranteed that basically.

I would consider UMich, it's a very nice school, but I live only about ten minutes away from it and do most of my shopping, etc. in Ann Arbor, and I don't think I'd like someplace that close to home.

Anybody else?

I agree that your ECs are very lacking. What I learned about you from reading this is you are obviously committed to Destination Imagination and you play the violin a lot. So do a lot of other students. There is nothing you can do about that now, sadly.

On the other hand, you have very strong stats academically (Congrats on most likely being a Finalist, btw). If you can manage to show a true passion or sparkling personality in your essay, you would have much better chances.

I'd say matches now would be the schools where your SAT scores are on the very high end, like American, Boston, William and Mary, George Wash, Skidmore, and Mary Wash.

The others are fairly unlikely. If you shine on your essay, I'd think that Macalester, Middlebury, Tufts, Vassar, and maybe U Chicago would be more in reach. (Berkeley too if you are In State).

Good Luck.

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm not in state for Berkeley though.

Anybody else?

bump (10 char)

you need to cut down the list by at least 5 schools

I'm just waiting to do that until after I do visits this summer. There's now way I'd actually apply to that many.

reject: columbia
sketchy: georgetown and tufts.

you'll get into the rest.

Well at least you are cutting your list down more. I would say <15 is a good rule of thumb. As for your chances, I will only do it at the schools you may not be offered acceptance. Your test scores are decent, not spectacular but still decent. Your courseload though is not so great. I think that is why your class rank is not so high, again pure speculation. I think your reaches are Brown, Columbia, Georgetown SFS, and UChi. The other schools you have a decent to extremely great chance at acceptance. GL.
