Hi, I'm a high school junior from a competitive MA school and I am SERIOUSLY considering Clemson. Here are some of my stats:

GPA: 3.52 avg out of 4.71 GPA cap (due to weird scaling)
PSAT: 183 (60 math, 60 reading, 63 writing)
SAT: (taking them in June)
SAT Subject Tests: (taking them in May)
Class Rank: Top 25-30% (school doesn't rank)

JR Year Courses: 5 honors classes, AP Chem, and gym
SR Year Courses: 2 honors classes, 3 AP classes, Statistics CPI, and gym (so GPA will probably go up)

EC: Varsity swim (3 years), club swim captain, volunteering

Other Achievements:
National French Exam Bronze Medalist (2012)
National French Exam Certificate (2013)
National Spanish Exam Certificate (2012)

My question is, assuming I get in, would I receive and merit awards or FA? I am Asian and I come from a middle-class family. If I receive FA, how much would I be likely to receive?

ALSO: If I do go here, what are my chances of getting into the nursing program? What about business? And would I have to pay extra for either of them? And do I have a shot at the honors program?

My D is out of state and received the max merit this year, she goes to a small all girls school.
Her stats

ACT 35

Unweighted GPA 3.8
Weighted GPA 4.6

4 AP classes Junior year, 1 honors
4 AP classes Senior year

Varsity softball, co captain her senior year, head of quiz bowl 3 years, part time job junior/senior year, volunteering — little league umpire, local zoo, animal shelter

National awards for Latin 3 years in high school and Greek for 1 year.

The final award package was about 20k and she was accepted into honors.
From what I have heard the nursing program is extremely competitive. You might want to start a post specifically for students who were accepted into the nursing program to find out what stats are needed

If your school doesn’t rank, Clemson will look at your GPA when evaluating for merit scholarships. However your PSAT score is below what they would like to see for SAT (1250 for Critical Reading + Math or 28 on ACT) so definitely work on your test scores! Your GPA is a little low for scholarships so definitely see if you can improve your grades if possible.

Nursing is very competitive - they only target about 40 freshman a year so you need very good stats to get into that. Business is less selective but admissions at Clemson isn’t a joke, it’s gotten more and more selective every year (but it’s not as crazy as UNC/Georgia Tech yet though). You wouldn’t need to have to pay extra for them. The honors college is super competitive. You need to be ranked in the top 3% of your high school class with an SAT score of at least 1400 (CR+M)

What school do you go to in MA? (I went to Belmont HS)

I go to Westford Academy. Yeah, my stats are kind of low, do you think it would help to take the ACT? I mean, I avoided them this year because I heard there was science on the ACT and I’m not great at science. However, recently, I’ve had people say it should help to take it…

I took the SAT, did alright and then decided to try out the ACT and I did really well on it. I’d take both tests if you’re considering it since you never know which test you’d be better at! The science section of the ACT doesn’t test you facts from school but tests whether you can interpret scientific data or articles (the answer will all be in the info they give you - some example questions: <a href=“ACT Test Preparation | Test Prep Resources | ACT”>ACT Test Preparation | Test Prep Resources | ACT). I personally like the ACT better than the SAT since it’s closer to school type questions (but that’s just my opinion).

I applied past the priority deadline this year and received my acceptance package within two weeks.
Top 2%
32 ACT (34 on math + science)
4.0 GPA at high school & SUNY college part time
Zero extra curriculars. Not joking. I put down working on my car in the spot.

I was accepted into engineering, not sure about business or nursing.

I received the max merit package this year, I’m OOS if that helps. For reference I was wait listed to tech after halfheartedly applying on jan 10th.
You need to do better on your SAT than PSAT, I got ~180 them bumped it up to a 2010 w/o any prep. Since my ACT was better I submitted that. You’ll need to get something up to get the full +/- 16K
