Chances for MIT,Caltech,Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, etc as a HS Junior

Hi as you can tell, I am majoring in something "sciency" and here I'll say it: physics (theoretical or astro-)

Ethnicity: Southeast Asian
First-Generation College
Resident: California

• Top 20 (sorry i don't exactly know where, i just asked the counselor yesterday)
• Weighted GPA: 4.5
• First SAT (taking another one soon) = 1810
• Taking 2 subject tests soon in June (math and physics)
• Freshman Courses: AP Human Geography, Adv. Algebra 2, 9th Grade English, Freshman Physics, Multimedia and ROTC
• Sophomore Courses: AP World History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Pre-calc, 10th Grade English, French 1-2, ROTC
• Junior Courses: French 3-4, AP Psychology, AP Biology, AP US History, AP Calculus, AP English
• Principle's Honor Roll
• Golden Academic Award

Extracurricular (I value more than academic)
• President of physics club, VP of Engineering Club, VP of Math Club
• Member of Key club (55 hours), Robotics and AP club
• Self-studied MITcourseware lectures aka college physics
• AAPT and Mathematics competition at UCSD
• Play instrument - piano
• Varsity Tennis
• YPP from UCSD
• I spend alot of time on physics: Physics Club - studying, making rockets, building cloud chamber, etc...

Summer Stuff
• I applied for SSP, Cosmos and SUMaC, I think i will get in Cosmos easily but still anxious about SSP and SUMaC

State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Public
Gender: M
Income Bracket: $30,000

Chance me for: MIT,Caltech,Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Harvey Mudd, UCLA, UCSD

Background Info( don’t wanna get too personal here but i’ll try)
Came from rich background in another country => came to the US, drastic drop of status in the society =>low- income. Faced discrimination, new culture, new language for 2 years in a low-rated middle school. Started picking up english later on in high school, make new friends, learn more about life, etc(sounds cheesy when i put it that way sry) Found my passion aka physics, try to expand my horizon/knowledge as a hs student.

bump

MIT,Caltech,Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Harvey Mudd, UCLA, UCSD: all reaches except maybe UC’s which could be high matches currently. What’s your unweighted GPA? Right now, with an 1810 SAT, your chances are honestly not looking great. To improve your ECs, consider trying out for USAPho or take your interest in physics to the next level by taking on a research project or entering competitions or the equivalent.

In order to have any chance AT ALL, you have to get that SAT score up

So i must get my SAT score up to around 2100-2400 in able to increase my chance significantly? Is there any possible way to replenish the score by EC’s? like doing research? or competition etc?

I believe 1810 is way too low, you can’t make that up with other stuff. Just try to get it up higher.

OK GOT IT, THANK YOU

Sorry if I angered you, but it’s the truth

hahaha no it’s fine you didn’t anger me it was me being “excited” :))

I second Kawaii. Try to buy used SAT books (i realize your finances are weak), and really get that SAT up. Or, if you are just not an SAT person, try the ACT. Try to get 34 or above on the ACT, and you don’t even have to bother about SAT. Let me know if you need help on your test prep.
