Chances for MIT EA

I do have a question about your class rank vs. GPA- the 4.0 seems low if you are the top of your class. Even an unweighted GPA should be higher than that, assuming that you are taking AP, Honors and possibly, Dual Credit college-level courses in high school. Also, what courses did you take as a junior and now as a senior? While being Asian might have helped some years ago, it no longer adds much to the “diversity” of MIT, but being a Questbridge finalist may help garner some extra attention- make that work for you. It’s still a crap shoot because these schools seem to select students for reasons that are a mystery to the rest of us. One young lady who graduated with my D this past year had a higher GPA and was a National Merit Scholar applied to MIT- 5 years ago, she would have been given an engraved invitation, this year she was turned down. Another young man we’ve known for years was turned down from MIT, and from all of the Ivies (he applied to ALL of them) EXCEPT one… he’s enjoying Princeton very much now!
