Wait 5.6 GPA am I reading that right? I’d say you have a shot at the four colleges you listed, but some things that seem to be missing are SAT subject tests, and a strong commitment to a few ECs. Colleges like seeing a few very strong ECs as opposed to many that you have only dabbled in.

The maximum GPA one could conceivably have in my district is a 6.0, but only if they were to take all AP courses and receive perfect marks in all of them. In response to your EC remark, I thought that six years of being in scouts, four years of being in varsity golf, and being a member of NHS and Student Council for 3 years would have had those covered. Perhaps I’m just misperceiving your comment. I also have yet to take any of my subject tests but feel confident that I will score above 750 on chem and math II.

The thing is, while those ECs are alright, top colleges like HYPS need to see huge commitment and achievement in preferably academic areas too. While your ECs are not weak by any means, it just may not be enough for HYPS where every other applicant will have ECs just as good or probably better.

Edit: Also report your GPA on the 5 point scale please.

It doesnt hurt to apply. I know that if you apply, you better have a really good essay. I know people who werent as qualified as you that got into Harvard (one had a 27 ACT and a 4.0 weighted. But he is going to the NFL lol). Just make yourself look as good as you possibly can.

And my 2 cents. I wanted to go to Harvard but my friend said they are kinda stuck up because they go to “The Harvard University”. He then transferred to Yale and loves it. He told me that its not really what school you go to, its what you make of it. You can make it into Harvard and just slack off. Just because you make it in doesnt mean you will be successful.
