Chances for MIT?

I've always assumed that MIT was one of those schools that is literally impossible to get into, until recently when I actually looked at some admissions stats and saw that I might be a match. Do you think I have a good chance of being accepted?

GPA: 95.3 unweighted, 98.2 weighted (Top 5% of my class))
SAT: Won't get grades until the 28th, but I got a 217 on the PSAT, and I'm projecting a 1500/2240.
ACT: Haven't taken yet, no idea what to expect.
SAT Subject Tests: Taking Math II and Physics this year and should get above a 750 in both.

APs: Haven't taken any prior to this year (only AP World History was available), but currently enrolled in Physics B and Enlgish Lang. Next year I'm enrolled in Physics C, BC Calc, US Gov, Macroeconomics, English Lit, and French, as well as College Accounting and Business Administration.

ECs:
Varsity Spring Track (9th-12th, captain)
Varsity Winter Track (10th-12th, captain)
MSG Varsity Club (10th-12th, founding member and holder of multiple board positions)
French Honor Society (11th-12th, probably a board member next year)
DECA (11th-12th)
Community Service Club (9th-12th)
National Honor Society (12th)
Business Honor Society (12th)
Wall Street Investors Club (12th, might have a small board position)

Recommendations:
Nothing stellar with regards to MIT

Awards:
High Honor Roll every quarter (so 12x)
Scholar Athlete Award (7x)
10th Place in National French Competition (probably going to place higher this year)
Various art awards in Computer Graphics
Probably going to at least be National Merit Semi-Finalist

Work:
Floor Hockey Ref (2010-present)
Camp Counselor (2012-present)
I also design t-shirts/ads for my aunt's screen printing business

Volunteer:
Tutoring
Community service (around 70 hours)

MIT: Low reach

I would say MIT is a high reach (as for anyone!). You really have to be genius to get in (in my experience). Here’s some empirical data:

Case 1: Boy with 2360 SAT (800s on subject tests) and a 3.98uw with around 10 ap classes and is self studying multivariable calc. He has four years of robotics (we got 2nd place at the world championships), has started his own math club, and is one of the greatest writers I’ve come across (won a national competition). He also does much more. Straight up rejected from mit ED (but into cal tech). Ouch.

Case 2: girl with similar stats and mit legacy gets in.

I’m not saying these things to discourage you, but I’m just trying to be realistic. It’s up to you after all… Good luck!

MIT is just not predictable! People who have been highly confident of securing a place at MIT even after meeting with admissions officers have been rejected. Best let MIT remain a dream and apply to it with the hope of getting in. If it comes amazing! If it doesn’t don’t feel bad just know that you tried.
My verdict: Reach (for everyone)

get any of the international olympiads…(IOI/IChO/ipHo…etc)…they should really help!:)

Your academic credentials are definitely strong and you will get into a top tier school. But I think the absence of stronger science credentials in terms of research experience and awards might hurt your chances at MIT. I’m no expert and this is just based on my limited experience.

Please chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1478187-chance-international-homeschooler-hyp.html

Exoblaze is hyping the college admissions process. Perhaps your friend came across as nothing but a plugger who would add no value to student life, because his stats are far above the average that MIT admits.

…you do realize colleges don’t not accept over qualified students, right? Besides, there is no such thing as over qualified for mit.

Sure. In some cases, I would imagine that MIT has rejected students with perfect academic records. Those stories are worthless though, like all anecdotal evidence. If you look at the overall data on MIT admissions, the OP has a decent chance.

Okay, what other people are saying definitely have merit. Top school admissions are often a crapshoot. If you can demonstrate genuine interest and passion for a subject, along with the right circumstances, you can definitely make it. Your stats are top tiered, I’m just not sure they’re suited for MIT. Look at the regular or ed admit threads for a better view.

RAISE THOSE TEST SCORES! and then it might be a match.

Does my lack of science ECs really affect me that much? I intend to be a business major, although I know at MIT you don’t declare your major until sophomore year.

MIT weighs ECs a f***ton. If you look through their admissions website, or even the acceptance threads, you can see lots of people rejected with 4.0’s that simply did not have strong enough ECs.

You don’t really have any “amazing” ECs, and your test scores + grades aren’t that amazing that they would be able to make up for that.
