Chances for MIT?

I applied to MIT early admission and just want to see what my chances are at this point...I know this is a lot to take in, so thank you in advance to anybody who goes over this. :)

Me: White, male (computer science). Parents both have college degrees.

High School: Public, generally in Newsweek's top 20 or so.

GPA: 4.0 Unweighted / 5.53 Weighted (No highest weighted possible, but highest in class is about 6.5 right now).

My school does limit the number of AP's I can take: 1 in freshman year, 1 in sophomore year, 4 in junior year, and 6 senior year. In Junior and Senior years, I took the strongest schedule offered.

My school has an IB program which I compete with as a member of the Performing Arts academy... Basically while IB students can take 6 IB/pre-IB classes every year, I am limited by the restrictions above, and required to take 2 (regular) music electives every year. I am in the top 8% of 708 students overall, but am number 2 of about 175 students in my academy .

Recommendations:
Counselor Rec stressed: service/strength of schedule/academic performance - "strongest recommendation" "no reservation whatsoever"
Humanities Teacher Rec stressed personal character: humility, fairness, social awareness, responds well to disappointment/adversity - "by far the most intelligent, well-rounded, and adept student I have taught in my eleven years"
Science Teacher Rec: IDK what he wrote, but he knows me well outside of class...

According to my English teacher: very well written, strong focus, and with unique subjects.

I realize that it's hard to chance, but any input at all is appreciated.

Thanks again!

I’d say you have pretty good chances…
Just remember you are applying to MIT and alot of it has to do with “luck”

Meaning it really just depends in what mood the admissions staff is in when they look at your application. Looking at acceptance stats it seems very random.

I’d say at least a 30% chance. MIT is a reach for everyone. (Unless you have a nobel prize)

Honestly, I can’t see you being turned down by MIT.

My god you are practically a shoo in I know people who are applying to mit that don’t have half the stuff you’ve got. You better get in

Thanks for the advice everybody!

MIT is a reach for everyone, and your test scores are just fine to get in, but alot of applicants will have 2400s so just keep that in mind, as far as your ECs go, i dont think you will be beat by very many competitiors, id give you a 50/50 shot which is pretty good being that they have a 10% acceptance rate, at the very minimum you will probably be waitlisted, but overall your chances are decent

chance me back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/801012-chance-me-i-will-chance-back-3.html

“but alot of applicants will have 2400s”

Probably fewer than 100.

Your music ECs are praiseworthy, but irrelevant!! To a math/science college like MIT, it will be worth less than it really is. Are you applying to HYP as well?

“Your music ECs are praiseworthy, but irrelevant!! To a math/science college like MIT, it will be worth less than it really is.”

Very wrong. MIT, though a primarily science-oriented school, still appreciates those who have passionate interest in music. It will be valued as a significant EC at any holistically reviewing school; MIT is one such place.

Ok well the musics will definitely help and dont worry about all those 2400 people out there, almost every top college can fill their spots with 4.0 students or hte 2400s or the 36s but they dont, because they need a larger base, they need different types of students, so your musical abilties will definitely help.

I think you have a great shot. Can you elaborate on the music club? What exactly do you guys do? I would love to start a “Music Club” as I am an extremely avid musician myself.
