Hello. I found this forum on google, so not really sure how to do this. I'm wondering what people think my odds of getting into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are. I'm currently a high school junior here's what my high school career looks like.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate
IB: English, History, Chemistry, and Math HL
IB: Music Theory and German SL
All honors classes
Straight As/A-s aside from one B
4.14 GPA on a 4.33 scale/3.89 on a 4.0 scale (4.5%)
Rank 18 out of 740 (2.4%) on the 4.33 scale and 33 out of 740 on the 4.0 scale
SAT: 2030 = 630R 740M 660W
ACT: 31 = 33E 31M 28R 20S
AP US History Exam got a 4, if it matters at all

Extra Curriculars...
Marching band 4 years/8 seasons (Varsity letters all years) (Section Leader)
Jazz band 3 years going on 4 (Varsity letters)
Math League 1 year
Science Club 1 year
FIRST Robotics (Lead Programmer) 1 year
Literary Magazine 1 year
Pep band 3 years going on 4 (1 varsity letter)
National Honor Society
Theater pit orchestra 3 years probably will be 4
All-Conference band 2 years probably 3

Let's see... I can't think of anything else at the moment. I'm taking the Chemistry and Math II SAT IIs in May, and will probably take another ACT and/or SAT. I studied health independently because it's a district requirement and wanted to take physics instead, and studied trig independently to take IB Math HL. Plus I'm a girl which will help for MIT.

Let me know if I'm forgetting anything important.

Thank you!

I think MIT look at test scores and are really focused on those math and science. I’m in FIRST Robotics too. MY team is 408 what is yours?

I know that they do care about the math and science scores but they also put weight on the “big picture” too. Dunno.

I’m team 2225. :)

You’re a good candidate but there are others much stronger than you are. Get your SATs up, and excel at a single extra curricular instead of having a ton (like get national level recognition in science/math competitions rather than 4 years of everything) best of luck!

Honestly, you do not have a chance. Your SAT and ACT is way too low compared to the other MIT applicants. Only taking 1 AP is also low, when most applicants take at least 5 or so. You also do not have much interest in math or science, which is the entire focus of MIT. Unless you left something huge out, like being a minority, I do not like your chances at a school that already rejects 90%+ of the nation’s most qualified students.

^I agree that your chances are pretty slim unless you bring up your SAT (aim for 770-800 math at least and overall 2250+ or at least a 2200). Your grades are a tad on the low side as well, but your ECs are good if not great.

I do plan to get my ACT/SAT up, that shouldn’t be a problem. And the only reason I only have 1 AP is because I’m full IB, which is looked even higher upon than AP. And I don’t think you can say I don’t have an interest in math and science when I’m in every math and science activity and am taking HL in both subjects…

Oh, I also forgot that I have a part-time job and have held it for over a year. I have heard that looks good. I am also going to apply for an NHS officer position in a couple weeks.
