Also researching for a historical paper/thesis.
If it helps, my essays were apparently "magical" (as quoted from my counsellor), and recs should be amazing as well.

I'm applying to all the Ivies except Dartmouth and Cornell, with Tufts/Duke/UChicago as my backups.

Thank you very much in advance :)

You have nice stats and may get into some of these schools. You’re backups are also highly selective, and as an international it’s harder than it is to get into some of these schools than it is for Americans, especially if you’re asking for aid. So be sure to have some schools you love in Canada too.

Cute, but no. It’s incredibly arrogant to think that Duke and Chicago could be considered backups for anyone, much less an average Canadian Asian in the admissions landscape. You almost certainly won’t get into Chicago as an international, and Duke is pretty questionable as well. I would even classify Tufts as a high match.

Get better backups. In Canada.

^Agreed 10char.

I don’t believe Canadians are considered international, I think they are in the US pool and I think this is an extremely impressive humanities applicant who will get into at least some of the Ivies.

Thank you for all your input :)

But yes, Aniger is right – Canadians are not considered international.

Also, I’m sorry I didn’t make it very clear, but what I meant as “backups” was backups to the reaches, not backups to the matches… If that makes sense. What I meant was that I think I’ve a higher chance of being accepted there :)

^From what I understand only certain schools (like Princeton) consider Canadians to be in the American pool. Most still view them as international applicants.

^ I’ve just spoken with my counsellor, and she says that for those schools that don’t consider Canadians equally with Americans, Canadians are regarded as “different” from internationals. Therefore, the order of preference (for lack of better wording…): Americans > Canadians > “Real” Internationals.

how about canadians living aborad?? im canadian go to inlt. skool in china

^ I’m not sure, but I don’t think you’ll be treated exactly the same as Canadians in a Canadian school – simply because the curriculum is different.

I think you got good chances at the ivies, especially if you can “dazzle” with your essays like you said. Head of Model UN ,eh? Cool, so am I. Does your school happen to run conferences?

Very few schools do the hierarchy of American, Canadian, International today. It really depends on where you live in Canada… Vancouver gets counted as “American” normally simply because the schooling systems are so similar… Many times you will find that Quebec and Montreal are considered international simply because the schooling system is very different.
