Chances for MSB vs. Chances for the College

I am interested both business (MSB) and Political Science/Economics (the college) at Georgetown. Any opinions, advice, etc. is appreciated. I would like to know which school I have a higher chance of acceptance at. I plan on applying EA, not that that seems to improve chances at all, and I can't decide which to apply to. For your consideration: I am a white male... Also, chance me on current stats even though I plan on taking ACT in september and SAT october.

Rising Senior
Class Rank 20/790 at one of the best/ most competitive public schools in the Georgia (sends 15+ to ivies/mit/chicago/stanford/duke each year, like 30 a year to ga tech)
GPA (only AP classes add 10 points at my school) 4.24 W, 3.9 UW
All regular grades (non-ap) throughout all of school K-11 are A's. I have taken all gifted and ap classes in hs. A couple of high natural b's(87+) in the AP courses.

Second Sitting 2170 (760 W, 720 M, 690 CR) - plan on taking it a third (final) time in OCT
SAT II: World History 730, Physics 700, US History 760
ACT: First Try: 32 (34 R, 32 M, 32 E, 31 S)
I will take again in september w/ writing

Ap Exam 5- APWH, 5-USH, 5-Psych, 5-CALC BC, 5- Physics B
(pretty happy with this!)

Junior Year (completed): APUSH, AP PHYS B, AP Calc BC, AP Psych, Gifted Spanish III, Gifted American Lit.

Senior Schedule: AP GOV, AP MACRO ECON, AP STAT, AP LANG, AP Euro, AP Chem, Gifted Spanish IV....... Maybe AP LIT, AP Micro Econ, AP Comparative Gov self study

Freshman and Sophomore year: Gifted classes for every subject except band and music tech

EC's :
NHS (70+ hours per year) Senior President, Beta Club, Nat Span Honor Society, Nat Science Hon Society Secretary, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Government, Science Olympiad (Regional, and State medals, went to nationals at UW madison, expect to return next year) , Academic Team (Fresh and Soph years) , Leader of School Leadership Team

As president of NHS, SNHS, and the Leadership Team, I have several things planned for my school this fall: Starting a Peer Mentoring Program, Walk it Out for Relay for Life, Leadership summit at my school (with people from 4 local hs's attending/partnering) , Open Mic (with bands) to raise money, other (smaller) community service opportunities (helping hands and hearts, relay for life initiatives, etc)

Member of County Student Leadership Team- It is a big deal in the state, pretty prestigious.. We meet with the superintendents, prominent businessmen, professional speakers, government officials etc...

Three Summers of Leadership Training with Student Leadership University- Have been to Orlando, Washington D.C., London, Paris, Normandy, Oxford for training. Had the opportunity to hear lectures from prominent senators, congressmen, civil activists, members from the house of lords.. VERY AWESOME experiences with this organization!!

Attended Foundation for Teaching Economics - Economics for Leaders Summer at Emory
- Incredible experience!

I really have a passion for leadership, and by that I do not mean taking positions to throw on my app, I mean learning about leadership (through lectures, stories, team building), learning about leaders, and teaching/sharing leadership skills to others.

Other: I am really involved in the worship ministry at my church. I play drums for several local bands..
Thanks for the help, any advice is greatly appreciated!
I will chance back if you provide link to your post!! thanks

bump…

Solid grades, but I don’t see much of an interest in economics or business from your activities. The business school essentially prepares future bankers, accountants, entrepreneurs, and consultants. You would have to convince the committee of your interest and back it up with experiences.

I think you would have a better shot at the college, but then again the acceptance rate for the college is the lowest in the university. You would need to differentiate yourself a little bit more from the other smart white guys from the south. Consider leveraging your science accomplishments and your music along with your good grades and leadership stuff to show why you would be an asset to the student body. I think the science and music stuff differentiate you the most from the other qualified students. The leadership stuff could either be a strength or a weakness depending on how you spin it.

I also think that with all of this leadership training you should try to accomplish something meaningful with it. Results are more impressive than taking a lot of training. In fact, if you don’t show results then all of that training will be a weakness and will appear to have been a waste of time.

You may also want to find an academic pursuit related to your interest in leadership. If you are really more interested in leadership as an academic subject then you should focus on expanding this. Consider why you are interested, what aspect interests you, how you will continue to study it at Georgetown (perhaps by studying a social science or a subject like history), and what you plan on doing with that knowledge later. Options may include doing a PhD and becoming an organizational theory and behavior professor or researcher; becoming a career coach/consultant; becoming an officer in the military; a writer; or maybe something in business down the road. Do you still have an interest in taking some science classes If so then say it because it will convince the adcom that the College is the right place for you to continue pursuing your other academic interests.

Obviously your mind can change along the way, but for your application you need to show the adcom what your current interests are, and how you plan on pursuing them in college and beyond.

Thanks a lot for the great response, I really appreciate it! I am kind of leaning toward MSB because i can concentrate in Management (and maybe entrepreneurship or operations and information management) and go into management consulting or like a business leadership consultant type role. The leadership aspect really is what interests me. I am a senior this year and have “more power” as far as being able to do things for the student body, and have several things planned: a leadership summit hosted at my school that invites students from local high schools, a peer mentoring program (we already have a huge tutoring program but this would be more relational), and several action projects for our school leadership to put into use what we have taught them.
