3.2 weighted GPA, will go down when unweighted
26 ACT
Captain of his HS football team
A lot of community service over his four years of HS
Applying ED
I don't know whether he's considered a URM or not. He's Arab-American

I know his GPA is very low, but I'm just curious if he's got a shot in hell at getting in. Thanks.

who knows, but that GPA will undoubtedly hurt. I'm not sure if Michigan looks at midyear grades but if they do then he has a chance to improve them and apply regular. also, is he OOS or in state? that could be a major factor

Can you type some more information? I'm not going to sound like a jerk again by giving you a 'reach' due to the lack of elaboration on your part.

Arab Americans are not considered as an URM, so your brother doesn't really stand much of a chance. Michigan does not consider weighed GPA, it only looks at unweighed GPA, which you say is lower than 3.2. An his ACT is 26, which is lower than the 25th percentile of enrolled students. He loses nothing to apply, but his chances are good.

woahh, hold on, UM is MAJOR D-1 football. Like the top 50 players in the country. Way more competitive than gaining admission lol. mrsoccer: contact the coaches is the first step, but it's a really long process as far as them scouting you and stuff goes. i'm sure you could find some info on the website though.

"3.2 weighted GPA, will go down when unweighted"
no **** your unweighted is lower than your weighted.

"Applying ED"
For the last ****ing time, UM does not use ED or EA. We use a modified rolling admissions system

"UM is MAJOR D-1 football. Like the top 50 players in the country"
Our recruiting extends well outside the ESPN 150. No team in the country, not even USC, or UF recuits solely within the top 50. The first step is contacting a reciuting service like Scouts.com for an evaluation.

True, I just think Michigan is probably pretty on top of the recruiting process. If he was All-State in TX, CA, or FL or something, I might be convinced. But that's a ways from just your basic high school football squad. Also, most kids who are worthy of that level of football are getting recruited as sophomores, not in the fall of their senior year.

gosh a sub 3.2 UW GPA is quite an ouch and you should def retake the ACT ( I don't know what the rule for the ACTs are) or take the SAT and get a better mark and then write some unbelievable essays and get some amazing recommendations, even then I'd say the incredibly low GPA makes UM a quite a reach for your brother.

scores and GPA are just too low w/o anything else substantial to back it up.

We had a kid last year, (pres stuco, captain of 2 sports teams, and maybe 100 hrs commmunity service get rejected for a 3.4 despite a 31 ACT. He called UMICH and asked them about it, and they blatantly told him that his GPA was too low.
