Hi, im new to the College Confidential site, and Im looking to get a good idea of what my chances are for some of the schools Im looking at.
My stats include:
All AP/Honors Courses: AP Biology, AP Physics, AP English, and Acc. Calculus. My schedule is taken up by Peer Leadership which is why I have no language.
I am Student Council Secretary, and a club leader for STAND: Students Taking Action Now Darfur.
I also founded and am president of The Outing Club.
I volunteer every summer and throughout the school year, currently at a Hospital in Philadelphia.
My SATS: 2020. Verbal: 650, Math:680, Verbal:690
AP History: 4, AP Environmental Science: 4
Im a two-time varsity cross country runner for my school, a NJ state renowned XC team (we just won SJ Champs the other week).
My EC is extensive, with past activities like class Vice-President and a variety of clubs I have been in for multiple years.
I was voted Most School Spirit for my grade, and I am a member of the National Honor Society. My GPA is a 3.6

So what do you think my chances are for the following schools:
Franklin and Marshall
Bucknell
Gettysburg
College of William and Mary
Boston College
Boston University
U. of Richmond

Thank you for your comments, if you need more information just say so!!!

Waitlisted at William and Mary. Just my guess. Good Luck. GPA too low. No foreign language................how many total AP's and also what is your class rank? Please understand that this is a college freshmans opinion. I think it would be cool to see how some of these predictions go. But I stand by my guess..............not a good chance at W&M.

I had two AP courses last year, and Im taking 3 AP courses this year. My school is too competitive to rank, we're a Nat'l Blue Ribbon, and were known for our school system.

par72: thanks for the suggestions, Holy Cross seems like a nice school, maybe not as challanging as I would like to see with their "typical student scores".

Your EC's are awesome and say a lot about who you are and what you are interested in. You have tons of leadership positions. William and Mary appears to look at the total applicant. Maybe your GPA is the weakest part of your app. (Only in USA, 2005---could a 3.6 appear to be "weak" in ANY way............mind you it is NOT....things are getting crazy). You have many things that make up for that. I would find ways of showing your interest in William and Mary. Look at my other posts. Call the admissions office, make some connection there. You know, you could end up being one of those random applicants that are accepted because the admissions office likes all that they see in you. Good Luck, and let us know how it goes for you. Whatever school gets you, they will be lucky indeed!

I thought Boston University required two years of foreign language but recommended more. Without a foreign language, at the very least you will be expected to take a language once accepted...if the schools don't require a language. How did your guidance office allow you to do this?? The rest of your profile is great...but that lack of foreign language could put you in a dicey situation.

Edit: It's at the top of your list. Does that mean it's your first choice? If so, feel free to ask me questions about Lancaster, I was raised there.

thumper1:
I've had two years of Foreign Language. I took the accelerated course, Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 Freshman and Sophomore Year. Then Junior Year, I was accepted into Peer Leadership, which conflicted with my Language period for Junior and Senior Year. And with two sciences in both 11th and 12th grade, I never picked up language again. I am aware that I will have to pick up language in college, at least linguistics.

ophiolite:
Nice Observation. My two favorite schools were Franklin&Marshall and William&Mary. I put Franklin and Marshall first because I know that research can be performed there, and I really would like to get to work at the Harvard Forest Research Station, an opportunity offered to 3 science students each year. Could you tell me anything about the surrounding areas that would be of interest to a college student. I do like to study and learn, but I really like to go out when I can and have a good time and party.

geetar27: I'll do some thinking for you and get ahold of my brother and sister who still live and party there to get some ideas as to the party scene. I've heard that the party scene is pretty alive at F&M and its really close to the heart of Lancaster which has a good music scene and great arts. For example, my brother goes to poetry readings and art galleries and such quite frequently (or at least used to).

Also, you're interested in science...F&M is a great place to go for science related fields. I didn't know of that program offered in conjunction with Harvard, but it sounds like a great opportunity. Another thing to note is that F&M is very strong in geology and is at the top of the LAC list for producing geology PhDs. That was definately something I wish I knew going into college (I have my BS in geology working towards my MS and applying for PhD programs...). Research is a definite option there! I'm glad you did your research going into college...I didn't and sometimes regret it. I'll PM you in the next few days (maybe later tonite) regarding the Lancaster social life.

ophiolite: Thanks alot. If you dont mind, where did you end up matriculating?
Again, thanks for the information and I cant wait to hear what info. you dig up on Lancaster and F&M.

geetar, I am assuming that you have taken a foreign language in 9-11 grade, and you did not take it this year. If you have not taken a foreign language for at least 2 years in hs, Thumper is right. Most schools require foreign language (most seem to require 2 years and suggest more, and some require more than 2 years). I know someone who was rejected from BU b/c he did not have a foreign lanuage here, although part of hs he was in a foreign country and is bilingual (English was his foreign language in the other country, but admissions did not seem to understand that and denied admission). He speaks 2 languages better than most American educated students where only English is spoken in the home, but that is beside the point.

cross country i ran 1830, that was my fastest time. not the best on the team, not the worst. i wasnt given a runners body, but i worked hard at it.

Any thoughts on Boston College and Bates???
