No one????

Meeting the pres. is not an ec.

Why are you so eager to hear what people think of your "friend"? If it's really your friend, honestly the best thing you can do is bug off. You shouldn't care so much about his chances at various colleges. If it's you and you're coming up with a "friend" to take any criticism, don't do that.

The short: he's strong everywhere except gpa. He would be a shoo-in at most of the schools on the list (except Amherst, Upenn, Columbia, Princeton, MIT) but the 3.0/3.6 GPA makes those places basically impossible. Georgetown, BC, Berkeley, UChicago, Bowdoin, Cal Tech are at least slight reaches because of GPA. FSU, UCF, UF are easy safeties and he's in at Tulane too

Here's what an admissions committee is likely to see when they look at your friend's application: Great test scores, mediocre grades. In general, that is a far less appealing prospect for an admissions committee than the opposite (high grades and mediocre test scores) or "test scores match up pretty well with the grades". The extensive list of extracurriculars might confirm in the committee's mind that this is a person who's put other things besides academics at the forefront. Lots of potential, but no pedal to the metal when it comes to actually using that intellectual potential.

At almost all of the schools listed, that's the kiss of death in admissions. Why take a chance on a slacker when there are plenty of other "perfect scorers" who also have perfect GPAs? Unless, of course, your friend is good enough of an athlete to be a recruited athlete.

Honestly, anyone who's met/has any relation to our current president should have a major disadvantage at college admissions.

He has enough leadership positions (4-5), and involvement and awards. His EC's are very stellar. His test scores are amazing too. Unfortunately, his GPA will keep him out. Honestly, if there's someone who has a 2300 SAT, a 3.8 GPA, and EC's slightly below him, the colleges will want that person, not your friend.

Not to be insulting in any way, but if your friend has a 3.0 G.P.A on a 4.0 scale, yet perfect test scores, it seems kind of..... weird..

Anyways, as long as his gpa is higher, he can have a decent shot at places

He kinda slacked off freshman and most of sophmore, and the EC those years had no time for school work!

????

im MVP for basketball for 2 years... did competitive boxing... and competitive sports my whole life... which took up most my time... on top of that volunteering at a soup kitchen in my local temple and trying to keep up with boxing most the time (6/7 days)... i hardly had any time/sleep...

If i can get a 4.0 GPA with that, ur friend shouldnt have an excuse... we all worked hard...

my only weakness is test scores nuff said... i wish i had ur friends test score... nothing else

ur friend isnt unique in either way... just good at being standardized...

thats my 2 cents... u shouldnt make up excuses cuz he slacked off... i tried not slacking off and still made it...

this is obviously a bs thread.

you can tell from the fact that:

the op's friend did way too many SATiis than required and achieved 800 on all.

3.0 UW GPA and yet 2400 in SAT. (Not many of those around)

"5 on the hardest 7 AP exams." What are the hardest 7? Who determines that?

He or she plays four varsity sports and surfs and "a champion horse back rider" ...Dream on...

No he got a 790 on one. Also, he was a horseback rider in elementary, and got an award. Currently he doesn't ride. For the AP's ----> I thought they sounded hard.

Well, then you are amazing, but if this dude is real, then I don't understand how you can call him standard, he's won a large variety of awards in all different areas showing awesome diversity.

and metalmeat, your friend will do well wherever he goes, he is obviously brilliant
