*Chances for my new, snazzy list of schools?*

Hey, I've posted here before, mostly for suggestions, and now that I've pretty much got my finalized list of schools, I hoping people could give me my chances at these schools and/or do that funky thing where you separate them into reaches, matches, and safeties (you know, that thing). Please be brutally honest, I can take it.

Here are my STATS:
I am a caucasian female, I go to a public school in Michigan (not a very competitive one like most of you people) in a suburb of Detroit.
GPA: 3.97 W ~3.9 UW. All A-'s and A-'s. All honors offered. APs: AP Physics, AP calc ab, AP english, AP Psych (school only offers 3 APs but starting 11th grade lets you take 2 classes a year from a place that does)
SAT:
1. CR 770, M 570, W 710 T 2050
2. CR 690, M 650, W 720 T 2060
highest subscores 2140 (770, 650, 720)
ACT: 30 composite, 34 english, 30 reading, 28 science, 27 math (will take again, aiming for a 32)
SAT IIs: will take Lit and Math IIC in fall.

Extracurriculars:
Theatre productions: all three years, 7 in total, leading and supporting roles, and stage crew. I've also done community theatre and am going to the "shakespeare school" in Stratford (ontario) this summer for shakespearean acting. I've gone to MIFA (michigan interscholastic forensic association?) competitions with my school also. (12 productions in total throughout my life)
Drama Club Treasurer/Secretary
National Honor Society
Literary Magazine (some kind of officer next year hopefully)
Another book review/reader's bulletin thing my friend and I founded (I guess that makes us co-presidents/editors) we really need a snappy name for that
Science National Honor Society Treasurer
Students Against Intolerance
Gay Straight Alliance
Piano lessons, 9 years, competitions for 2 years
A Cappella Choir (varsity, audition only choir)
voice lessons
have volunteered not so much, this year I had 30 hours I think, tutor in French and math. I plan to volunteer a lot more this summer and next year.

My Schools:
Wesleyan (1st choice)
Vassar
Brown
University of Michigan
Skidmore
Oberlin
Wellesley
Smith
Bowdoin
Michigan State (safety)
Wayne State (safety)
Washington University (maybe)

whoa, that's a lot. I may delete some in the future, but I don't think I'll add any.
also: I don't know if this means anything, but I intend to apply for financial aid.

Please help!! thank you very very much.

My take (please don't hold me to it!):

Solid admission bets: Skidmore, Michigan State, Wayne State, U of Michigan

Probable admission: Smith, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Vassar

Possible admission: Bowdoin, Wellesley

Lottery schools (high reaches): Brown, WUSTL

Nice list by the way --- good luck!

McGhee, Improved, indeed. You seem to have a wide range of "personalities" but as long as you have a reason for each school that's all right. It's still fairly early in the game, so don't worry about further editing between now and December. Visits usually cause some adds and deletes.

I'm pretty much with Carolyn on chances except I'd move Wesleyan and Oberlin up a notch in selectivity. I'd suggest that you apply to UMich rolling admissions very early (as soon as they accept applications) then you'll have their answer in a few weeks. If you're admitted, you'll have a safety in your pocket and you can add a few more reaches if you like and delete any safeties that you no longer need.

If your family needs financial aid either needbased or merit aid, you may have to do some more research into financial safeties as well.

I would love to do that funky thing where I separate them into reaches, matches and safeties!

Wesleyan - slight reach (if you mean Wesleyan U, not Wesleyan C) - and match if you apply ED
Vassar - slight reach
Brown - reach
University of Michigan - match
Skidmore - match
Oberlin - match/slight reach
Wellesley - match/slight reach
Smith - match
Bowdoin - slight reach

In the women's college theme did you think about Barnard at all as a reach or no?

Anyway mine is not the final say, but Good Luck.

the average wellesley sat score is 1367 (source-PR) whereas your sat score is 1420 (excluding W). wellesley seems to be scores-conscious judging by the information released on their website. i think something like 60-70% of applicants with verbal scores in the 750-800 range were admitted. of course, wellesley still takes personal factors into strong consideration, but just thought you would like to know that your a great fit in the scores department. 770--thats an amazing score! good job! i hate how a good score is overlooked here...a 770 is treated as no big deal, but it really is. good job once again :)

wesleyan is a slight reach if you choose to apply regular. i would apply to wesleyan ED if it truely is your first choice. good luck with everything!

I love you guys. I thought for sure someone mean would come on and tell me that I could only get into community college or something (some of the people here freak me out!). I saw someone say that to someone just because they had a 3.5 gpa or something.
thank you thank you
and I wish I could apply ED to Wesleyan, and maybe I will, but I'm worried about financial aid and also applying ED just makes me nervous. and I hope my state schools will be financial safeties.
you guys are very wonderful and helpful!

check out bates too!

I would also suggest looking into some safeties that you could really be happy in. Is that really Michigan State and Wayne State for you? Just applying to state schools because they're safeties and assuming you won't have to go there could come back to bite you in the ass one day. I would look into:

Boston University
U of Maryland
Emerson
American U
Mount Holyoke

Just to name a few. I'm sure there are others - maybe better suited to you, but you have to look.

You're right--those schools would be a whole lot better. Those are really safeties for me? If so, I'm thrilled. I just took Mount Holyoke off my list because I thought it was too many women's colleges for not really being thrilled about going to one (I added Smith and Wellesley because I just generally loved the schools except for the all-women part. And it's free to apply). So, yeah, those are definitely better, thanks. And I'll look into more, because when I think about it, I really don't want to go to MSU.

I would actually suggest taking the SAT again, because although the 770 is great, the second time you took it you only got 690 verbal. Adcoms might think the first time was a fluke or an easy test or something. And the 650 math, although better, is not up to par with some of those schools.

I wouldn't say Mount Holyoke is 100% safety, but with a great essay it is a safe match, and I think that you definitely need some of those. I think you'd probably be alot happier at Mount Holyoke than at MSU.
victorward - colleges say they look at your top scores, and they look at your top scores. Yes, your math score for Wesleyan is in the bottom of the middle 50%, but your verbal is in the top 25%, and especially for LACs they value a verbal score alot more than a math score. Like i said, you're going to need a great essay.

Yeah, but they see all the scores and the drop may rise eyebrows.

I was actually worried about that for awhile...but then I stopped, because there's nothing I can do about! I have to take my SAT IIs so there's no time for taking the SAT a third time. It's overkill anyway, oh well. Thanks though!

tra la la la la
i'm just "bump"ing one more time, just in case

Hey are you tralala55 from the princetonreview board?

Nope, sorry. ha
