Thanks in advance!

Although I can’t add that much input on 90% of your list, I don’t think that you should expect getting into Vanderbilt (even if you ED).

I know it’s a very high reach, but you never know until you try, right?

Also, I have one more question for anyone responding to this thread…

Should I go ahead and apply to TCU with my current SAT scores or should I wait to submit my scores once I retake the test?

Bump! Any input is appreciated.

Anyone? Bump.

Wait until you retake. You have more than enough time to submit scores. I have to agree with the above poster though. Vanderbilt is a high reach. Your SAT and GPA are significantly below its average.

With the exception of Vanderbilt and Texas A&M, your pretty much a match for every school. From your test scores and AP exam grades, it is evident that your school is not very competitive, something that will hurt you. Try to retake your SATs and ACT. Other than that, write a good essay and get good recommendations.

chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/957028-chance-please.html

I thought Texas wanted top 10%. If so, that would also rule out Texas would it not?

I don’t know if it would rule me out completely, but it would certainly make it more difficult for me to get in.

Thanks for all of the replies so far.

Your ECs are great and GPA is strong. However the 560 in CR and 560 in Math are going to be seen as low by competitive schools who would want to see those scores well into the 600s. You did get a 650 in Writing but It is questionable how much weight most colleges give to this new section of the SAT. Here in California, the California State Universities (CSUs) do not consider it at all and only use CR plus math scores when evaluating SAT results. Since you are a Texas resident and appear to be applying to a number of state schools, you will probably get accepted at at least one of them on the basis of your GPA unless your class rank would exclude you from consideration.

If you want to go to a private or OOS public college with competitive admissions like Vanderbilt you will probably have to boost your CR and M scores considerably if you take the SATs again. I believe you can raise your math score by just setting aside a couple of hours a day when you do nothing but math problems from SAT prep books. The more problems you do, the better your score will get, up to a point. Not everyone can score 700-800 on the math SAT no matter how hard they practice but getting to a 650 in math, which is a respectable score, should be doable. As for CR, unfortunately, being able to read a difficult written passage and correctly answering somewhat subtle and ambiguous questions on it usually is a skill that is acquired over a lifetime and dramatic improvements with just a few months of preparation are much less likely than on the math section. Try reading materials that are more difficult than what you normally read and then try to write down what you think the author was trying to convey to get an idea of how well you understood it.

Thank you for your input! I really appreciate it. Do you have any SAT math books you would suggest?

Thanks again.

Bump? Thanks again for the responses so far!

Bump again?

Barons makes a really nice math review book.

Thanks! I’ll look into getting it.

Bump!?

(:

I’m probably starting to annoy people. Sorry!
Bump?

Bump?
Thanks again.

Bump… again?
