I take the SAT next saturday. What do you think my chances of getting in are? Any suggestions? I plan to apply in December.

I take the SAT saturday too! ( I’m applying for NCSSM as well )

As far as i’ve heard, CD10 isn’t that competitive, so you should have average, maybe slightly above average chance.

When i tell you that the admission process for this school is a little crapshoot . . . it is . . . we had a girl from our school get in last year with a 1500 on the SAT and a C on her report card. She is in CD 8 which is one of the most competitive districts!

However, it must be noted that the girl was an URM ( she did have excellent stats too though) and her essays were VERYYY good

Yet another NCSSM applicant I’ll be applying this year as well. I think that you have a good shot. Your extracurriculars sound really good (I wish I did karate :D). You should probably start thinking about the essays; how are you going to “sell yourself” to the application committee? Why does NCSSM need you and why do you need it? What will you contribute to the school? Why are you different from the other applicants? If you can create good responses to these questions, then you have the makings of a good essay XD

Hey, I hope nobody will hate on me for randomly coming in…
I’m a sophomore in the Triad region and I just found out my SAT score today. I got a 1920 :’(
Can anybody tell me how competitive District 6 is and the average SAT score for my area?
I am terribly worried about my SAT score.

Wow… I’m also an applicant here from CD 10. My current GPA is 4.75 unweighted and 4.0 weighted. By the end of my sophomore year, I expect a GPA of 4.8. My SAT scores are CR 470 M 710 W 480 with an overall of 1660. Yes, I know my critical reading and writing is not the best, but I do speak another language as well… What do you guys think?

So I went to discovery day today and I think I did pretty well. Over all there are apperantly 1270 or so kids applying for 350 slots. 1 in 4 chance… Joy…

The chances at NCSSM are always tough. HOWEVER, every year lots get in! Keep that hope.
As for SAT scores…remember that you are compared to the average in your school first. You need to be 100 points above the average SAT score for your current school (under the argument that you can be challenged where you are if you score is at or below the average at that school). That is what we were told during the crazy process.
Secondly, Your district plays a huge role. CD4 and all areas of Charlotte-Meck tend to be highly competitive.
At this point, try and just put it aside and wait for the April results. I know…easier said than done!

And to all of you who got Non-Finalist or Waitlist, don’t worry. Just appeal, and wait. A lot of slots are going to open this year, just like any other. I’ll be waiting to see you all on move-in day!
