Chances for ND

I know these aren't everyone's favorite, but I would greatly appreciate any advice on my stats! I love notre dame and will be applying next fall (I am a junior this year). I'm not a legacy so I know that won't be great in the process because 25% of admitted students are, but regardless I'd love feedback!

Academics:
- 99.6 weighted average
- ~95 unweighted
- I go to the #1 public school in my state that is in the top 100 in the nation.
- my sat scores aren't great. I know I can bring them up to at least 2100 because they were almost there with no preparation.
- 5 APs by the time I graduate (Lang, US history, Stat, Spanish, Lit)
- all honors and additional "TAG" classes when possible

ECs:
- summer swim team
- National Art Honor Society
- National Spanish Honor Society
- Beta Club
- Fellowship of Christian Athletes
- Small group leader at church (I was a student in the group and after I was confirmed I became a leader)
- Middle School Tutor
- Mentor for underclassmen
- Yearbook staff writer (my school has a nationally recognized, award winning journalism department)
- Vacation Bible School Camp Counselor
-- hopefully next year I will be in National Honor Society and NHS for other subjects as well as having leadership positions in clubs.

Extras:
- I have organized candy drives at church for homeless shelters on Halloween.
- Toshiba "Exploravision" participant.
- National Spanish Exam gold medal winner and 4th place in my state.
- I'm catholic and very involved in my church, if that makes a difference. On their common data set it says they do take religion into consideration.

A 2100 SAT would certainly help the cause and a little prayer couldn’t hurt. GL

Haha trust me, I’m always praying that I get in!

Any other opinions? I’d appreciate it!

You seem to have everything they’re looking for, but it’s a really competitive group. Higher test scores will definitely help. Also, put a lot of effort into your essays and try to prove to them that nd is the school for you (ex. show faith, passion, leadership, desire to learn, etc., I read their mission statement before writing my essays). Your stats seem pretty similar to mine and I think my essays helped put me over the edge.

If your school is competitive and highly ranked, ask your GC! S/he will have detailed information about comparable applicants from your school and how they have fared at ND and other highly selective colleges.

I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to write a good why ND essay. And students from my school have gone to Ivy League colleges, vanderbilt, duke, and other really good schools, but since it’s a fairly new school, I don’t think anyone has gone to notre dame.

@caro223 were you accepted to notre dame recently? If so did you apply/get in early or regular?

I was actually just accepted early this past December… So I don’t have a huge amount of experience but I spent hours and hours researching and obsessing over everything you could possibly want to know about ND admissions. I have no legacy, and neither did the only other person who was accepted at my school. Everyone who applied from my hs, including deferred/rejected students had very strong grades and test scores, but I think we were the best “fits”, and that came across in our applications. That’s why I would recommend proving your passion not only for Notre Dame but for learning, service, and any other ecs you do through your essays.

Ok good to know! Did you have any other hooks or high act scores that would set you apart? I’m afraid I’m too similar to the rest of the applicant pool so I plan on working really hard to have great essays that reflect notre dame ideals and such. What did you find about admissions? I’ve been doing the same. I’ve gone to 2 different admissions presentations and I have looked through so many of the accepted threads to understand everything that is important but I feel like I can always learn more about it.

I got a 34 on my ACT and 780 M, 730 CR and 730 W on my SAT, so my scores were at the high end of the middle 50%. But I’m also a white Catholic female who played sports and had a moderate amount of volunteer work, so there were definitely a lot of me.

Your sat scores are definitely a lot better than mine and I don’t play sports, but other than that I’m also a white catholic female so we’ve got really similar stats. I have literally hundreds of volunteer hours so I’m hoping that I can really bring that aspect through in my application because service is so important at notre dame. Are you definitely going there next year.

Yeah I definitely am! Good luck to you!!
