I am also in College Now at CUNY Hunter College, taking Political Science. My planned Major will be Meteorology(not sure if that matters).

If I don't get into SUNY Oswego, I will apply to:
-Plymouth State University
-Lyndon State College
-SUNY Oneonta or Brockport

Is Oswego out of reach? What about my other schools? Should I be aiming higher, or lower? Thanks.

There are many urms in queens, if you are one you may be aiming too low. The SAT is a key piece of info though. Did you take the PSAT? SAT practice tests? If you are a minority and can do fairly well on the SATs (2000 plus) you could be looking at some good schools. If you're family is low income, they would probably be not more expensive than the State schools you're looking at.

urms? But yes, I live in Queens and come from a low income family. I didn't take the PSAT's though, but I took an SAT Prep course the first semester of this year.

Oh, and i'm not a minority, but my school is a minority one(it's in Spanish Harlem, Manhattan)

urm: black, hispanic, american indian. Are you white and going to school in spanish harlem? If so, you have a good story to tell. Low income, spanish harlem, doing well....all add up to schools seeing you much differently than they would see a kid from a comfortable surburban home. With good SATs, I would still say aim higher. Are you set on the major? Does it matter undergrad if you want to be a meterologist? I know nothing about it but it seems you could take various sciences and then do a grad program. Anyway if you tell usmore, I'm sure you'll get specific college suggestion.

Yes I am white going to a school in spanish harlem. One of the only white people in my school :P. I decided not to apply to one of the specialized schools in the city and instead go with something more diverse. And hey, it's worked out.

But about Meteorology. I am very set on that. However, I haven't really explored how you could take other sciences and then become a meteorology. It honestly never crossed my mind...but i'll go researching about it right now. :)

Post on the parent's board, there's a lot of knowledge there career wise. I would assume meterology requires grad school and you could probably have your choice of several undergrad majors. Good luck, your story is interesting.
