hi everyone! i wanted to know your opinions about the colleges i plan to apply to in the coming fall. first, here are my stats:

colleges

cornell
unc chapel hill
uva
umich
nyu stern
upenn
duke (maybe)
rutgers (safety)
boston college (maybe)
georgetown
emory
carnegie mellon
swarthmore, williams, amherst (not sure about liberal arts yet)

i definitely need more safety schools. i want to major in marketing and psychology or marketing and biology (i think the biology would come in handy if i work for a pharmaceuticals company or something). i love business and science. i want to go to a school with a good newspaper becuase i may want to freelance in the future as well. what do you guys think of my choices above, and what other suggestions do you have that you think would be a good match for me? thanks for all your help beforehand!!!

your stats look good...what is your heritage/race btw...if you're hispanice, i would say your chances are significantly greater at all the schools..i'm not sure how good the business programs are at most of those schools (which i'm assuming you're applying to from your EC's and your choice of NYU Stern) so I can't really make any judgments...but from your scores and gpa itself, i would say you'd def get into unc chapel hill, uva, umich, rutgers, and boston college.
over the summer i had the opportunity to look over 4 real class '09 apps to UNC Chapel Hill courtesy of a program that hosted the admissions person from that school. Let me say, gpa and scores had a big influence on admissions from what i saw.

i'm asian (part chinese part vietnamese). you are correct in assuming i'd be applying to the business programs. for the schools without business programs, i'd apply to their college of arts and sciences to double major in econ with psych, sociology, or math. for most schools the acceptance rates for the business schools are lower than overall acceptance rate for the entire school ):

did you see applications to unc from out-of-state asian students? if so, do you remember any of their stats?

the four UNC apps (one African American -A, one Hispanic -B, two Caucasian-C, D) that we looked over (it was an activity where we had to act as admissions officers and read over the apps and 1)accept 2)waitlist 3) or reject). I believe the actual results were: A got accept as well as C due to their EC'S AND GRADES mainly as opposed to essay or recs. D got rejected even though she applied early b/c her stats weren't good and she didn't have good EC's. B got waitlisted, probably b/c of his race (in this case, it was a plus) since he didn't have that good stats.

I would say regardless of race, UNC will pick the strongest students who show well-roundedness and passion. But honestly, if it came down to you (an Asian-American) and a girl who was African-American with similar stats, you know who'll be getting in and who'll be waitlisted -_-;;...

i went to journalism camp at northwestern this summer .. where i realized people made fun of nj a lot. i never knew that but apparently we're the 'armpit state' where all the strange people live.

anyway, i don't feel comfortable putting my school on the forum, but my school is pretty hardcore for a public school (i'm from south jersey). however, there are rumors flying around that the ivies are beginning to look down on us becuase of grade inflation.

last year, we got about 2 people into barnard (at columbia), 1 into brown, 3-5 into columbia, 1 into dartmouth, 4 into duke, 9 into emory, 3 georgetown, 1 harvard, 6 umich, 16 nyu, 5 nu, 6 upenn, 2 princeton, 2 yale, 3 washu, 1 swarthmore.. blah blah if that gives you somewhat of an idea of my school.
