Low Reach

Why do you work so much? Do you help provide for your family?

Thanks for the response! Yes I work to help the family. I actually talked about it in the additional info.

I think your stats reflect the fact that you are a hardworking student that has succesfully balanced home and school lives. Although you do have a lack of leadership, I think the rest of your application will outshine that. Good luck!

It’s obvious that one can’t work 30 hours per week and have the same ECs. But, because you are doing so to help your family and because you are a first generation college student I believe those will go a long way with admissions officers. I believe because of this you have a reasonable chance. Best of Luck.

I say low reach. Depending on how your essays are, NW is a low match/reach. Thanks for the chance! :)

Your background will serve as a hook, and you’re definitely in the run. I’m not so certain about your chances though.

The good thing apart from your background is school grades, course loads as such. But the disadvantages are that you don’t have stellar essays and recommendations. (Please don’t take it personally, but you know how us Asians would like to think that an essay that got you to QuestBridge final is not good enough. To be the winner is the best? My point is just that it depends on the adcom’s tastes and rmb there are always better essays out there). Not so good SAT IIs too, especially Bio and Phy, insufficient prizes (esp for an Asian. Stereotypes…) and good ECs- not outstanding.

Don’t lose hope. I’m just stating out what adcom might look into, and what you can possibly improve for future applications. Who knows what NU adcom will think? Good luck.

Good luck! Decisions are coming out on Thursday! I hope you get in! I have no idea who you are!
