Teacher Recommendation #1: APUSH Teacher, should be great (Called me favorite student he has had in all his years teaching)

Teacher Recommendation #2: AG/Calc Teacher, should be good, had him both Freshman and Junior year and he likes me

Counselor Rec: Knows me well, will discuss how my father was absent throughout my entire childhood and how I overcame that/ my passion for politics

Hooks: None

Thanks in advance! I am just wondering how much of a reach Northwestern truly is

bump

bumppp

Northwestern RD is very, very difficult. Two students from my school were denied last year with 35 and 36 ACT and nearly perfect GPAs. In RD, NU looks for students with direct ties to the university, like a legacy, and geniuses. I would give you a 50/50 chance of getting in.

But I have to ask you, what draws you to Northwestern, other than the academics? And maybe the “Big Ten” conference? I took a class at Northwestern this past summer, and I did not like it whatsoever. It went from number 1 on my list to dead last. Additionally, my sister is a student there right now and she is not happy. It is $63,000 a year for professors who only care about their research.

I don’t mean to scare you or anything!! But I see so many people that are “in love” with Northwestern and applying without looking into it all. If you want to hear more, you can message me.

@illinoisgolf I have done my fair share of research and have visited campus. The only reason I am applying RD instead of ED is because of financial constraints, and I have to know how much financial aid I will receive before I commit

BUMP?

That’s very very smart. My sister got in ED, just to find out she didn’t get 1 penny of financial aid.

@illinoisgolf yeah exactly that is definitely not an ideal situation

My D applied RD last year and got accepted. It is surely competitive as the overall admission rate was 12.9%.She has no hook of any kind. They mainly offer need based aid, so one may find out the estimated cost by their NPC easily. The financial aid my D got was similar to (actually a little bit more generous than) the NPC calculation.
